Imagine how members on this website would have reacted if at the start of 2015 someone had dared to predict that for the 2017 season we would have the top three NRL prop prospects - ie AFB from Dragons, Perrett from Dogs and Meehan from the Roosters, Souths top back prospect Walker, the Dogs best young backrower Lane, the Tigers young gun half/backrower Sironen, the Roosters top halves prospect Hastings, the NSW Under 20 2016 centre Kelly along with Jake, Tom and young Hoppa. Add in the Knights top tryscorer and NSW and Australia rep Uate.
They would have been laughed off this site as there would be no way you could sign all that talent under the cap unless you were the Broncos.
Well that is where we are for 2017. They have all had chequered histories the last 2 seasons (not including Tom and Jake who have started to show their potential and are signed long term) but they all have undoubted talent. If even half of them can reach their potential we are in for a big year.
Credit where credit is due to Baz/ Bozo if this happens.

Last season was a comedy of issues:

1. Stewart injured for a large portion (replaced by an injured Turbo)
2. Matai injured for ages (replaced by Brown, Buhrer, Wright, Wiliame etc)
3. Lawrence out most of the season
4. Symonds languished in PL for most of the season
5. Mateo languished in PL for most of the season (almost all)
6. Koroisou, Walker, Lyon, Wright all played 5/8
7. DCE was playing with an injured ankle
8. Parcell / Koroisou / Brown all had to give Hooker a go.
9. Lussick was playing injured (but amazing anyway)
10. Vast array of wingers used (Wright, Wiliame, Taufua, Parker etc)
11. NSW Cup & NYC were a debacle
12. Barrett had 0 experience, yet came off as very supportive
13. Some coaching staff unhappy (and are now gone) - Siebold
14. Match fixing issues
15. Salary Cap struggles (lots of cap space on sidelines)

Next season, a lot of that will be remedied:

1a. Tom will hopefully play a full season, free of injury
2a. Walker / Kelly may be main stays @ centre (and FAST)
3a. Lawrence looks fit - and I mean really fit
4a. Hopefully Sironen plays and makes impact. That's addition
5a. Barrett will have Lane to pick, and probably will. That's addition
6a. We have a specialist, experienced 5/8 now. Massive improvement
7a. DCE will hopefully be injury free
8a. Have Hastings (a goal kicker), Koroisou and Brown available. Paridy.
9a. How good will Lussick be injury FREE !!
10a. Hopefully will have two set wingers in Uate & Taufua
11a. NSW Cup rebuild begun...and looks to have some quality in it
12a. A year on & lessons learned - will only be good for him
13a. Some new staff brought in - could be great
14a. Seems match fixing issues have died and gone away
15a. As @Woodsie rightfully says, salary cap post 2017 issues gone

I think by just turning up, we are already 3-4 paces ahead of last season. The importance for mine, is that everyone on and off the field are pulling in the same direction.

I was hard on the Blake Green signing, but from what I can tell (and what I've been told), he's bringing that behavioral element to us, so him mentoring guy slike Hastings, Meehan, Hoppa would be absolutely fantastic.

That's why in the merry x-mas thread, I said I think we are in for a very positive 2017. Almost every area (you CAN'T replace Lyon, so I won't go there) has been addressed by the coaching staff and management as I've written above.

One of your very best @Ryan.

Agree completely.
Although you'll still get the usual crew around here complaining that we are just signing rejects @

Just for you ;) hehehe

Oh and just on Curtis Sironen. I have heard some talk that he's just a big body and not a ball player. Well, I seem to remember before Moses came along that Sirro Jr was actually touted as the Tigers next 5/8, so obviously he does have some skills.

Whether he can put those skills to use as a back rower for Manly remains to be seen.

Good to see you've come around!

I'm trying to drag myself into the world of the positives this morning.
Imagine our possible attacking options with DCE, Green, Hastings, Sironen, T Turbo and Walker. And that's not including Jakes subtle passes and Marty Taupau's huge fend.
Not too shabby if they click.

I'll stick with the positive. Ryan's assessment looks pretty much spot on. I'll also be interested in how young Bainbridge, Tom Wright and Parker develop with another year under their young belts. And I'll be interested to see the Matthews Shield team which should included the prodigious talents of Albert Hopoate and Ben Trbojevic, both already considered potential stars. Could be a good year for the Sea Eagles
