2018 Signings

hi all. tough season...a few sniffs of hope but by and large i think we will finish about where most expected, 6-10th. the big losses after a winning streak are hard to swallow but imo are probably an indication of the youth and class of our team.

the biggest hole in my opinion is, as others have said, a quality leader (probably a forward ala Ben Kennedy) who is an experienced winner and can cut through to players when their heads are down.

so, can anyone confirm what signings we have made for 2018?

I think we are extending Browns contract for another 5 years so he can keep providing his invaluable experience and impact to our team and and Kelly for another 10 years because we have to be patient and invest in his potential as from what we have seen from him it is a guarantee that he will eventually develop into another classic centre.
With these 2 extended signings our future is bright !!!

How about we slow down on the Pacific Islander et al recruitment (new and used) which seems to be the easy way out for many.

I'd like us to sign some young brawny farm / cattlemen footballers from out in the sticks, there has got to be a few guys champing at the bit for a go that no one is giving them. And would love a bit of sand under their feet as well.

For example a Charlie Frith type to cut the opposition in half often enough that they look twice or three times, practiced on cattle no doubt.
A Les Boyd type, the skills of Ray Brown....I'm sure they must be out there, what are our recruitment people actually doing?????

Gee, you can certainly stomach a loss much easier when half the opposing team is in hospital.

edit: legally of course!

edit 2: Oh and of course then then NRL would send out the CSPU (Cameron Smith Protection Unit) to put a stop to such fun.....well it was a good idea whilst it lasted.

My order would be for a no frills hard worker in a body like Marty Taupau or Dave Taylor with the spirit of Geoff Toovey inside; no mistakes and no injuries.

Your a bit hard on the kid aren't ya @BOZO? I dont remember Skivvy being any better when he joined us from the jets. He had some shockers in defence. Yet he turned out alright. They all have to start some where! Feathered Friend.

If I saw what you saw I would say it like you see it . I dont see a Skivvy in Kelly and I dont support any player that does the sacred maroon and white colours a disservice.
Just like your self I supported and hoped all the best for Kelly but after a season constantly showing what he is made off I am not impressed . The NRL is a ruthless game and competition and it is no place for the faint hearted .
The forum is about saying the way we see it as passionate Manly supporters .

Here is a tip . If you cant tackle you don't belong in the NRL . There are many 20 year olds in the NRL doing the rounds holding their own and some making it their own and then we have turn style Kelly who started as a player of potential and ended up making a name for himself as a Target in the back line .
Dylan Edwards from Penrith is the same age as Kelly but unlike Kelly this young guy is a star!!!

He was found out big time in Round 6 against The Dragons. If Brian and the coaching staff were going to be able to fix his defence they should of by now.

Who's off contract that's any good? we might go for Hayne as a center but it would have to be on the right coin.. we need more forward depth and in the backs but there is no one really.. should of gone hard for gagai

Terrible comparison. Dylan Edwards is at fullback, barely having to do any defence, whereas Kelly is playing in the hardest position on the field to defend.

I think you're looking back through faecal-coated glasses, dh. I don't think Matai was ever that bad. Plus he was already much bigger and stronger than Kelly at the same point in his career.

Salary cap pressures will see some decent players fall our way.

I think the big mistake was letting Myles out of his contract. Look how rapidly the team's fortunes have turned since then. Nate's largely unsung role has not been filled since his departure.
