2019 Squad

Looking at the rosters in detail I’m thinking it will pan out much the same at top as last year . Roosters Souths Sharks Melbourne,Penrith look very strong with great depth as well and Dragons Brisbane probably fill a top eight spot.Likely improvers maybe Tigers, Knights and possibly Titans as those three have recruited very well. As usual top 4 side will win it.Not convinced about Cowboys improving as much as people think but their forward pack looks dominant and should ensure a slightly better showing, but Barba and Bolton wont help.

Looks like the gap netween the top and bottom sides is getting wider on paper.Dogs , ourselves, Raiders ,Eels don’t seem to have improved at all roster wise while the Warriors look weaker and probably join them in terms of quality. Of course new stars are always thrown up but across the board the bottom sides from last year look to be in for a tough fight again.

Roosters are the least effected premiers in years. Lose Ferguson and Napa , gain Creighton and Morris. The good old sombrero.

Of course injuries, the huge merry go round movement in quality coaching staff over the offseason and no doubt some more player atrocities will effect what looks likely on paper

Overall to me there seems to be a bigger disparity than usual from top to bottom in quality which can’t be a good sign for the comp. Until they address this 3rd party stuff I think that trend continues. The salary cap is being slowly made redundant by these deals.

is there a function on the site for me to tag certain posts and set a reminder to look at it again in future?

Some very firm opinions on this thread which i thoroughly look forward to reviewing in 6 - 8 weeks time.

From what I can gather:
We will have a 0-6 record
We will be 12th - 16th
Most (if not all) of our 'new additions' are NOT first graders
Our backline is the worst in history

If I listen to people here, I should basically come back in 12 months!

More posters on here think that DESpicable will fix all of our problems.

Bottom line is forums are about opinions formed at a particular point in time.
That’s why people come here.To express an opinion - and people should respect that, whether it be positive or negative. As long as the opinion is expressed respectfully of course.

Looking back in hindsight to lambast someone doesn’t serve a great deal of purpose. Not many of us can say we are never wrong.

I vividly remember saying Foran wasn’t a five eight and never would be ! Call of the decade

I think it has a lot do do with our early injuries. We have had a rough early couple of seasons in past years, and this year has been similar. If we can keep the troops on the field early, I'm confident we will have a good year. We lose some key players, we will have move of the same.... It's a bit early to tell either way, but at least having Des and the old brigade back together gives me a fuzzy feeling...

Jumping back to the issue of our "development roster"...I wonder if Croker has been bumped up into the playing squad so that we CAN now add one or two more players to it? I agree, doesn't seem much sense having this many halves all of a sudden...but I'd be very happy to see an Abbas Miski and/or Saunders on the development list.

I hear you Sue - and tbh, i am not one to drag up old posts and lambast anyone.

Opinions are good - I love them, and they are never wrong.... but I can't stand people completely writing off a whole group of players as being useless and they can't win a game.

I have seen many teams of superstars (think North Queensland recently, Souths afew years ago and others) who are stacked with talent, but have bad seasons. Good on PAPER doesn't WIN GAMES. Crap on paper doesn't lose games.

This is not our strongest squad.... i totally agree. But there are some very good players in there, and plenty of youth. It is exciting. We haven' gone out and bought a Myles.... we've backed our U20's. Its admirable and exciting.

Freagle, I would have dumped Hodgko, left Crocker as a development player and introduced Saunders (like his heart, just keeps going), Miski and Anderson to the 30. If we don't encourage them we will loose them to other clubs. Strengths are our juniors, when they are strong we are strong 2-3 years later.

All good

I’m certainly not doing that. Before Dylan was out and Tangles went down I was thinking fringe eight. Realistically I think that’s a difficult task now and I think we just need to be a little cognisant of this so fans don’t get overly dissapointed. Unfortunately Walkers position and the bench where Tangles showed so much promise is where we were thin to start with.
I’m looking forward to seeing a committed side and watching guys like Garrick Hopoate Waddell Anderson Funa develop as I think they have real talent.

None of us are Nostradamus!!

We might like to think we are but we’re not.

You have an opinion based on the situation as it exists at the moment , pre the Walker issue and injuries I was thinking 12th position , possibly as high as 10th.

I think we’ll struggle early on and be well behind the 8 ball after about 4-6 rounds BUT who really knows.

Coming back 2 months later to this post and then being critical of those views is stupid , none of us , not one have the benefit of hindsight!

I see Krisnan Inu is currently unemployed after his super league club couldn’t afford to pay him, could do worse than look in his direction for cheap centre and fullback cover
He is only 31. Would be very handy at centre i reckon. But would need to prove his fitness.

Every year most people thk the same teams that made the finals the year before will be there again. Theres always surprises. Such as cowboys and parra dismal failures last year when people were tippin em to win the comp.

God no. Another Jarhead Hayne. Talented, but lazy and selfish. Could have had a very good 10 year NRL career if he had applied his skillset. Unfulfilled potential and no reason to suggest that he will finally fulfil it here.

Say that to The Chooks, and Storm, who have immense squads and players in their rosters, and go out thinking they are winning every game they play.
I disagree that good on paper doesn't win games. Good on paper does win games. Every team winning the GF has been stacked, including us when we did so.

The only team that is a no brainer to be up there is Roosters with the unlimited cheque book.
The others will simply fight for who ends up where...based on who clicks, injuries, rookie break through and attitude.
I really feel with a fir Sirro and Api we basically have 2 new signings there.
Young Garrick has people close to the club with high expectations and young Hoppa just may make his mark "This season" and Funa is another who will get a shot.
The coaching staff will have the side fitter and more motivated with a little more respect for that emblem on the chest, which is also a positive.
Pretty excited to see what the side dishes up in 2019 and see a team that will upset some top teams any given day.
