The Sea Eagles are set to be without powerhouse forward Taniela Paseka for the remainder of the season after club medical staff confirmed he suffered a ruptured Achilles on Sunday against the Raiders.

Paseka collapsed as he took the ball forward in the first half and had to be helped from the field.

Confirmation of the injury was given to Fox Sports early in the second half, with Paseka now facing multiple months on the sideline.

Feel for Paseka. Hes had terrible luck with injuries but in the interim times he’s been getting better and better. This is a big set back for him and a long road to recovery- I’ve snapped my Achilles and it’s a slow recovery process. I’m sure the club will get around him though.

Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold is adamant the club will give Jake Trbojevic all the time he needs to recover from his second concussion in the space of a month.

Speaking ahead of Friday's clash with the Eels, Seibold said
Trbojevic was following the concussion protocols and "his welfare is by far the most important thing".

"
Jake will meet an independent doctor, which is part of the protocols, and we'll give him as much time as he needs," Seibold said.

"We need to be conservative with
Jake , we don't want to put him out there too early. We'll be guided by how he feels but he is feeling a lot better today."

A boost for the club with hooker
Lachlan Croker named for his first game since last year's semi-finals.

Croker had arthroscopic surgery to his left knee before Christmas and was tipped to return by Round 4 but he required further cleanout surgery in April.

"
Crokes has been working really hard in the background," Seibold said. "He'll come back and we'll limit his time but he has been training with the group the last couple of weeks."

However,
Ben Trbojevic was withdrawn from the team on game day due to illness, with Michael Chee-Kam added to the reserves. Corey Waddell comes into the starting line-up forTrbojevic with Caleb Navale added to the bench.

Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic will join brother Jake, prop Siua Taukeiaho and winger Jason Saab on the sidelines after being ruled out of Saturday’s match against the Broncos at 4 Pines Park.

'Turbo' has been playing with a corked thigh in recent weeks and aggravated the injury in last Friday’s loss to the Eels. The club announced in a statement that it was taking a conservative approach and would rest their star fullback this weekend.

Taukeiaho picked up a minor calf strain against the Eels and he too is expected to miss just the one week.

Jake Trbojevic will also sit out Saturday’s match against the Broncos as he continues to follow NRL concussion protocol before returning in Round 14 while Saab has succumbed to illness.

Wonder if anyone has any update on how Taniela is tracking with his recovery. Got to admit I assumed the R25 return date was just something to encourage him (and/or we fans) rather that a realistic goal.
