2026 recruitment & retention

Why aren't we offering more than just the 1year with Talau, this is one guy we need to keep long term.
I agree, it could have something to do with spreading the contract renewal dates over a few years - don't forget the cap is suposedly increasing to $15mill in '27

He's a first grade player but not currently a first choice in the backs. Probably because he's missed so much footy due to injury. He also missed a lot of games through injury at the Tigers. So I can understand offering one year.

I see we have finally appointed a fulltime head of recruitment and pathways - Craig Walker.

Paseka gets an injury every year and misses a lot of games also, but it didn't stop us from signing him onto a long term deal.

Yeah it hasn’t got anything to do with injuries, it’s a tactic to be off contract for 2027 just like we‘ve seen 1 year deals for Hethrington, Moale, Cobbo, etc. I’m sure the club would have wanted to lock him up longer with Garricks future most likely not here.

Another great, if not somewhat overdue step from Mestrov. I really like his understated approach to getting things done. And say what you like about the owner, they appear to be doing things in a grass roots, “sustainable” way ie in the absence of having a billionaires spare change to throw at every big name on the market.
Is the appointment of Seibold one of these “great” steps? How about the signing of Woods, Chee Kam and Waddell?

Spare me mate!

Actually Woods was a great signing. I guess you could argue Chee Kam and Waddells case too.

Woods 1st of all we got for free for two young players that didn’t kick on. Woods even though at the end of his career, still managed to fill in when needed and provide an experienced head in the sheds.

Chee Kam with a wealth of NRL experience comes to Manly on a minimum contract aiming to land one last payday on the back of it. Low risk for a very experienced player to balance the squad salary cap.

Then we have Waddell who is probably my least favourite player in the squad. Man it burns me to see him on the team list each week. But again he is providing value for money stating in the 2nd row actually filling in ok over the last month or so. Also plays in the front row as a smaller forward and would be on a cut priced deal.

You need these players in the squad that have NRL experience at a low cost.

If you mentioned a player we payed overs for I could understand your argument but I feel Manly are in front with these 3
