Epic fail by the NSW police.

I'm not saying it's over. I'm saying that the NSW police haven't managed to lay charges on anyone. If that's not a fail, I don't know what is.

The nsw police failed as will the commission, waste of money in my opinion. I agree with you, if the police can't lay charges I can't see the commission being any different.

What charge do you suggest?

A case has to have enough evidence to be able to secure a conviction for it to be worth pursuing. (Mind you, that didn't stop the police with Brett Stewart).

I don't know that any laws have been broken, but certainly a whole number of NRL rules would have been. Money laundering is not likely, as you would have to prove the money was 'illegal' to start with, which is unlikely. I don't know if there is a betting equivalent to insider trading either, ie betting on an event and then influencing the result. Perhaps simply fraud would be the charge. I am sure there is someone with more legal nous around here who could explain it all.

As to proving the incident happened, I don't know what the difficulty is here, they simply use CCTV footage to place the person at the TAB terminal at a particular point in time, and match that with the time code registered when the bet is placed. It is easy to identify who placed which bet.

And as a side note, it is not rare for people to bet on odd things by the way. The other day I took a bet at the TAB at work for over $250 on Australia scoring 2 runs from the 4th ball of the 12th over.

They might be charged with Conspiracy to recoup funds from Bookmakers. Which is a most heinous offence. If people start winning money, how can the bookies sponsor teams and buy stadiums for heavens sake?
