The Stewarts,Watmoughs,Kings,Matais of back then werent in the position to take unders in the start of their careers because noone knew who they were. They only started taking unders later on when they started tasting some success. lol . You're deluded if you think they were taking unders from the time they started playing their first few games or seasons. Those guys were involved in the first few rough years with Des, when they copped some big losses. Just to refresh your memory, Brett Stewart didnt join the Dragons because they didnt want to sign his brother (who was a nobody at the time) as well. Is that the kind of unders youre talking about. lol.Not my point at all.
You are talking 20 years ago , it was different then , players prepared to accept less money to keep the brotherhood alive.
Today these young players want
Big money
Guaranteed first grade spots
Point 2, the other players weren’t brought in , instead of Weekes , rather brought in because they were considered reasonable backups and weren’t expensive.
Case in point how many first grade games did both play ??
And under what circumstances were they brought in??
The answer, just a few & they were never purchased to be future superstars , they were just cheapies to fill the necessary 25-30 positions and due to injury / SOO jagged a couple of games .
Meanwhile Matai was running around for a while in QLD Cup , and no one knew who he was.

Thats a copout statement...You know it and I know it.
So we sign those players with the expectation knowing theyre going to more than likely have a bad night at the office...but hey we give the work experience kid the flick because he cant prove himself in 3 games. Right I get it.
