All NRL Games [Round 24, 2025]

Absolute BS. He is not standing beside the ruck with that ridiculous blockers play that led us to this rule in the first place. He was standing 10m back in a legitimate position to take a run. That is a crock rule and a horrible interpretation given what is was introduced to stop, and that travesty of a circus tonight. It just undermines our game.
Except he wasn't taking a run or looking like he was going to run, he was a statue until Grant got near him.

Do you know the rules?

If Harry ran around Leota and didn’t touch him it still would have been pulled up. Leota stood as a blocker.
So, we now have to clear all players out of the pathway to a kicker… and from what line exactly? Line from the dummy half run? Line from directly in front of the kicker? C’mon, that was a really poor outcome for what the blocker rule was brought in for. Pedantic, and unnecessary. Not a good look for the game. Cleary articulated it quite well in the presser.

And I would just add… if we are going to be that pathetically pedantic with this rule, Why TF won’t they rule on offsides and markers square throughout golden point? 🤷‍♂️

It doesn’t matter whether he looked like he was getting the ball or not. He was in a legitimate position to take a run one-off the ruck as he does throughout the other 80+ minutes of the game. He was 10m back from the ruck FFS, not standing next to the ruck.

This has been in the game for a couple of years at least. They cracked down on it. Players can’t stand anywhere in front of the kicker attempting a field goal, there has to be a clear path for the defender to attempt a charge down.

Ok Danny. How and where is that line measured according to the rules? Is it from the play the ball to the kicker? Is it from the first marker, or even the second marker, to the kicker? Is it from the kicker perpendicular to the try line? Is it from every individual defender to the kicker? Genuine question for those banging on about the rule. 🤷‍♂️

I’m well aware of the blocker rule. That was far from the spirit of what the blocker rule was brought in to deal with, IMO. I get people are sick of seeing Penrith win, and most have nada sympathy after the trainer antics of recent, but that tonight was garbage for me as a footy fan.

Ironically, that would not have been called an escort in a bomb situation, nor would Grant have gotten away with doing the exact same thing on a defensive read in a try situation. As a footy fan it smells like sh1t and looks like sh1t.

Yes, but his point is that If Harry was really trying to charge down Nathan's kick, he would have run into Leota's right side not his left. Moses was moving away from Nathan creating more space not moving towards Nathan to close the space down. It was a dud call pure and simple. Harry milked it and right now he is the NRL golden boy who can do no wrong. I would be filthy if we lost like that.

There was a clear path that's why Harry went right instead of left.

I don’t know how it’s measured according to the rules but if a player puts himself anywhere close to the line from marker to kicker he will definitely get penalised every time.

I’ve always said it, players should never put themselves in a position where the referee can get involved.

That's how the slime won last week over da cows, because of that soccer player. What a bunch of shocking actresses, but da silver has to b the favourite for the Golden Globes award for best actress in the worst movie ever made inda history of movies.

Well, doesn’t it concern you as a fan that you don’t even know what the rule is yourself? Did that circus tonight not smell like $hit to you? I’m pretty sure you would have been burning witches at the stake if that was Manly copping that decision. Are you happy to see that sort of diving rewarded in our game?

Smart man that Harry Grant.

Also don’t think Leota was playing dumb, he knew exactly where he was standing and what he was doing.
Of course he knew what he was doing. But c’mon… 10m back from the ruck in a legitimate attacking position for every other second of the game… that is a fair tactic in my opinion, and still allows a legitimate challenge.
