And your 2017 wooden spooners are...Manly

In the pre season I thought we'd be bottom 4 just purely based on how terrible we were last year and I wasn't impressed with our signings and we lost buhrer and killer. Matai and snake didn't play much last year so I didn't count them. Buhrer and killer are massive losses and I didn't think uate green Curtis Siro etc could replace them.

I understand your concerns but like media people saying we will miss Matai and Stewart, you've forgotten Buhrer played only half last season and Lyon was pedestrian in the centres and only came more to light when at 5/8. He had lost his speed. Kelly in the centre is already better than Lyon was in Manly's centre last year.

Matai played 8 games, Stewart 11 (as a cripple), Buhrer only 15 games and Lyon 17 games. That means those champion players in total missed 53 appearances. Combined with Stewarts ineffectiveness on the field and Lyon's slowness at centre in '16, our backline was far poorer than it is this year, and if we can keep our forwards on the field, the forwards are potentially better than last year.

I can't see it either, not with the Knights or even the Tigers who will be weakened during SOO @

Manly just need to avoid suspensions, the injuries are out of their control, and the combos will cement
I think Jamie Buhrer's new team will finish ahead of Jamie Buhrer's old team. Difference being, Jamie Buhrer - not just his footy skills but the attitude he brings and the way he can inspire his teammates to dig deep.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.........another expert (never heard of this guy Anthony Brand) repeating the same old rubbish that's become boring to read about & listen to. Everyone is an expert, everyone is a statistician, everyone is master coach, everyone is selector, everyone knows how to fix it....except that most of these experts have NFI............I must admit some of the posts in here are good for a laugh. Whatever the outcome this year I will still support my team & will do the same next year & the year after etc. etc. We could have won our first two games & there would still be criticism of the team.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. In the meantime I'm gonna sit back & continue to get excited about every game we play & will be be either ecstatic or disappointed or hopeful & my adrenaline will still pump as I support my team & coach no matter what! Oh yeah & I will continue to shake my head in disbelief at the disdain some have for our team & coach!

We rank 1st for 1 on 1 tackles in the nrl so far this year. Average 24 per game.
We averaged 17 per game in '16.

This is not a good stat at all the way the game is played currently. One on One generally means a quicker play the ball than a 3 on one where all peel off slowly letting the line get those few extra seconds to get set. Generally in a 3 man tackle the player is turned onto back and takes longer to get up too. If a one on one takes the same time to get up, instant penalty.

The advantage of a one on one to the defending team is not what it should be, so all this stat says is we aren't getting enough people in the tackle as much as we should be.

You're the best....

"And with the side facing the Cowboys, Bulldogs and Roosters over the next three rounds, the Sea Eagles are likely to be none from five to start the season."
this is what hit home... we would never hear that two years ago... barretts best days would never come close to tooveys / haslers worst days.

I said 12th before kick off and I'll stick to that.

I seem to remember these same discussions at the start of last year, and after a few weeks the side started to gel and we won a few.

Newcastle went 336 days between wins, but look at their side last year.

Whilst our side is far from top 4 it's not instantly a spoon side because of two losses!!

One of the most important stats, rarely discussed, is the penalty count. An average side like ours need to at least break even to be a realistic chance of winning a match. Penalties are so hurtful these days and change a team's momentum.
For some 'strange' reason Manly and Easts are invariably on the wrong end of the penalty count, regardless of player personnel. Is it possible for a referee to be completely unbiased?

It's why in the MVP voting I gave Badger 3,2,1 for Souths.

Now, Badger didn't make us play badly but his lack of penalties ( which were obvious at times ) for us AND some absolute bull**** penalties for them meant any time we were trying to get back into the game we were stifled before it happened.

And you have to admit it happens virtually every game.

Players like Marty have big targets on their back and I'm convinced the refs go into our games predetermined to " take control " , and the consequence of that is a big penalty flow against us.

It's not just last week, it's years in the making.

I dunno, I watch and start screaming 'what are ya doing???' at our player before the penalty is blown lately. Maybe other sides are getting away with more but we are ridiculously ill disciplined.

A track record of success means you get the benefit of the doubt. Was the 2008 side also on a 6 match losing streak? Did they have no discernible structure, pattern of play, leadership?
It's obviously so hard around here no one has a sense of humour so to clarify, the gist of my original comment was to settle down and not over react.

BTW - do you remember he back end of last year? Was Matt Wright playing 5/8..? Wasn't half the squad out injured..? Who gives a **** about those 5 games???

Negativity. There's been nothing but negativity ever since we lost the 2nd game of the season. I'm sick of it. I hate negativity.
I'm happy to meet you halfway on this one Bob.....there is a place for negativity, it's the delusional negativity which gets a hate rating from me! But then so does delusional positivity 😉

Here we are after 2 losses (the first one due to one of the most blatant 'official riggings' and in the second we were still tied with 20 to go after being deprived of 2 players from the first!) and there are calls for the wooden spoon, this is more than delusional negativity, it is plain whacked in the head.....😱
