Another typical Many stuff up

He was re-signed as a centre in Apr 15, with the ability to fill in at fullback when Tom wasn’t available. That as we know, is a lot of the time.

This has been covered so many times. Our winning percentage in the intervening years might have been somewhat greater, if Gutherson had been allowed to stay.
I too wish we'd kept him.
No doubt it was to help free up cash for Marty, Api, Walker and co, who were some name signings for the great new coach Barrett in 2016.
In fairness though Gutho hadn't played all year (2015) due to an ACL and it's always a little question mark after that injury.
And while Matai and Snake both fell into disrepair, they'd both played nearly all games in 2015 so that was a bit unlucky.
And Turbo only debuted in 2015, then played nearly every NRL game in 2016, 17 and 18. His awful injury run only really kicked in in 2019.

Maybe we should've kept him, can't say I like the thought of the Gutherino in our colours though.

The week before he didnt prove most of us wrong. He played well last week, hasn't been that good overall this year and I've been surprised by Sams drop in form, he was a gun last year.

So when he is consistent, you know, week in week out, then ask us and we may agree with you.

Latu is 12 months older than Joey Walsh at 20.
He made is first grade debut last year at age 19. The same age as Joey Walsh is now.
Latu and Samuela are first graders now and will only get better.

They should have been playing for Manly and would be playing first grade for us now.

Except we have Brooks and Waddell for similar total money.

We are a joke.

Seems latu proved most of you wrong with that last performance. Shame for manly that both boys are so loyal to the Fultons who gave them a chance, in the end cannot blame them even though they were our best young talent coming through. Good luck to the three young boys of their pathway ahead.
Oh yeah, & where in your 4 post history did you extol the virtues of Latu Fainu & say the club should have kept him?

The only stuff-up Manly made was bringing this family to the northern beaches in the first place… the Fainus are the players they are now BECAUSE of the time and money that Manly wasted on them and Manly has gone backwards since Manase decided he wanted to stab a bloke over SOMEONE ELSE’s drug debt… we would be in a much better position as a club if no Fainu had ever been scouted by Manly…

The only interesting line in this article is the quote from Sam…

“We just went through some things that we can’t talk about.“

Confidentiality clause?

They were talents in juniors and Samuela and Latu in particular were heralded as potential stars, and paid accordingly (even as kids).

I don't think anybody has ever thought their lack of footy ability was the reason Manly didn't fight to retain them. Sione had left a year or 2 earlier as he was down the pecking order a little and had an opportunity at Wests. Latu reportedly had some unnamed issues that played a part in Manly's view of him, and Samuela simply wanted to stay with Latu.

All still very young. In 2 or 3 years they may be stars? Whatever, all clubs have some stars. But of course we'll watch their careers with a bit of added interest due to their time here.

Ps I wonder how long they will remain at Wests? Especially if they do kick on and hit top level

I think the whole “ they should still be here thing “ is obviously a view some have , for others it’s “ good riddance “, it’s a forum so you’d expect that.

But the one thing I always look at when players are released / signed is that we , the sausage roll eating numpties really have no idea of the stuff going on behind the scenes.

It’s like the Dollar Chaser , only a very very small circle of people would know the true story.

And it’s the same with the Fainu’s.

We have no idea why they were released , was it attitude , was it the offer of immediate first grade spots , was it a **** load more money ??

We weren’t “ behind the scenes “ we really know only what some journo writes ( who make **** up for clicks ) so as always I trust in what the footy department decides as they really are the ones that know all parts of the story.

And sure , just like Gutho , Hynes and many others they may well kick in to be superstars , and if so , we’ll “ you can’t keep them all “

Brooks hasn "t been at his best for quite few games this season but could not really see how Latu would have been an upgrade overall for him .
Not a lot of difference contract wise either and Latu has just come out of a quite difficult run with injuries .
May have been a case for Latu as a possible replacement for D C E but Fogarty and Walsh at this stage at least , still seems a better way to go .
Sam just a little bit all round more to offer then Burbo but also pretty marginal when Burbo 's general form level is considered in 25 and again the reality of Sam being on 500 K right now .[ still overs ]
Burbo appreciable improvement for the past 18 months or so, obviously not on that sort of money and could not be expected to be ongoing despite again , some definite improved form for a while now

Brooks had done more than Latu at that age, and still continues to do more than Latu this season at his current age

You think Waddell is anywhere near 400k a year ?
