My brother used to play for Lane Cove A grade and Presidents cup with Mick. He as a good bloke but like norths in those days no-one took the game seriously especially at training.

Back in the seventies norths lower grades used to train at Tunks park and they had to run from Tunks to the harbour bridge and back each session, The trouble was that the oaks hotel was halfway so a few of them used to stop and have a beer or two while hiding from the trainers who would search for players in the pub.

Sounds like Chris Close would have fitted into norths well back in those days.

By my calculations, using those stats, Manly had a 62% chance of picking up the 2 points whenever they played Norths. Also, previous precedence has shown in North's history (particularly prior to 1990) that by the way they played their seasons over the years, most teams would pick up the 2 points over them. I know that during the 70's that Norths were well known in the media as "The Easy Beats" because they just couldn't seem to win a trick and newspaper tippers would just not pick them to win.

Worth saying that Norths tended to play better against Manly due to the hate and nature of the local derby. They were the big brother and were overtaken and outperformed by us.

Worth noting that they supported our entry into the comp back in 1946 and for that we should be grateful.

I miss the local derbies but have always been underwhelmed by their on-field performance. The fans that they gave to us after the merger have underwhelmed me too!!!
