It seems Toovey and Hasler are not going to happen... Who would you support, is there anyone you would like to see take the helm?

I get the impression that the Penns operate on favourites just like Barrett. A lesson I learnt over the years was that decisions must be dispassionate. You cant allow feelings to determine decision making. The Penns have the opportunity to start afresh after what has been a disastrous couple of years, not just on the field. We need a coach who knows his business and seeks to get the best out of ALL players. Playing favourites is immature and leads in only one direction...downward. And it sounds like Barrett and Cartwright have been acting immaturely. The Penns must forget relationships and treat the football club like they would their business, not just some fun hobbyhorse They need to examine potential coaches through what they have achieved and how they operate in their job. For example I would be choosing Hasler way before Cartwright. And I'm not certain I would want Hasler back at Manly given his back end contract policies, though as a coach he certainly has the credentials. Cartwright doesn't.

What is amusing is the Penn's would probably read this and think that we are just dumb fans that know nothing about the coaching credentials of candidates and they have "inside info" that suggests that Carty might be successful. The truth is, we know more than they give us credit for. If we can see that Carty is a goose from the sideline, how come they can't see it from the inside the coaches box?

As for the petition don't waste your time Zorba was going off this morning about Peters being bullied last year (blaming Barrett for not taking control) yet what did Penn do he sacked the bullied guy (peters) and extended Ferris.
Ferris and Cartwright should be out the door but Carty is getting a promotion and Ferris got an extension.He sacked Toovey when supporters didn't want it and he sure isn't going to take tips from us now.

The idea of football clubs being a rich men's playthings has never sat very well with me. What's worse is that these particular rich men don't appear to be very smart.

Searle and Cartwright had a similar relationship up here as he is alleged to have with Barrett.....and let’s just say both guys paid a big price personally

Carty played no part in Searles deception but Searle is universally disliked up here and for good reason. There is hardly a supplier of goods and services he didn’t rip off. Young tradies are the lifeblood of the footy here and he dudded plenty of them.

Gold Coast is still a small place. A lot of the lack of crowd support came from the community disowning the side as he owned it.... everyone had a Seale story to tell.

The new owners are well respected and with some success on the field I can see a return to the good crowds they got for the first 3 or 4 years.

Surely we need a new page next year. The players need some old fashioned discipline and I don’t think someone who has been involved in the farce of the last three years and issues prior to that is the man to do it.

I know a cpl tradies and a concrete pumping owner who are still hoping to add Searle to their next high rise concrete slab.

I think that will be the last straw for me if the Penn's put Cartwright in. My interest and support would wane considerably and I'd be looking at better things to invest my time and energy in next season. It just reeks of accepting ongoing mediocrity. The state of Brookie is an absolute disgrace. The state of our club on and off the field is not something that gives me pride. I have only remain invested until now because of the proud history we carry and my personal emotional connection to that history. The state of everything around this club currently is just not something that resonates for me anymore. It's heart breaking.

Agreed, not while Penrith and the Broncos still have moves to make. Maguire will end up at one of those two clubs I believe.

They are doing this because they are favouring those who obvious pee in their pocket.

To me the Penns have the nous for their specific business but looking at them I can see they are still quite young and probably inexperienced regarding relationships. You don't have to like someone to take advantage of their skills. In fact it shouldn't be a factor. If they criticise your actions, but are succeeding, they are showing the courage to point out issues that may well require attention. This is not like Barrett who is showing petulance but has failed in his job. Toovey may have had the temerity to criticise your actions but then Toovey got them to 4th in his first year, 4th in the second year, the grand final in the third and 9th in his final year. Barrett has only just snuck them in once in his three year tenure.

The argument that Toovey was sacked because its a results assessed game just doesn't fit and its obvious like Gould at Penrith that the Penns cant handle criticism even if those employed by them are effectively doing the job. This is just plain dumb and makes the Penns, who are obviously otherwise competent business people, appear to have a vital flaw in their character. Wake up guys. As far as rugby league is concerned, your business nous is seriously lacking.

1. Winning % as a coach less than 50%

2. Laugh's when we are getting flogged

3. BIG part of the drinking culture

4. Brought a known bully in Ferris to Manly , who then systematically bullied Willie Peters out of the club

5. Does not have Manly blood / culture

6. Is our present defensive coach (we are dead last in the NRL in that field).

7. Was sacked from an under performing Titans

I gave Barrett 2 and a half years, so I doubt 3 weeks will be long enough to make a call either way on our new coach.
In saying that, Carty in particular gets less leeway. He is more experienced than Barrett was, and is also a part of the current problem.

This is not just a case of some ebb in the football club cycle. We are plummeting new depths of dysfunction and are falling further and further out of the dialogue. We are slowly becoming irrelevant in the current modern game if this trajectory continues. This current Manly is not the Manly I grew up with. I've been through plenty of ups and downs in our history and stuck by understanding this for over four decades. This is a completely different beast. I don't feel the need to hold onto the "underdog/in the trenches" narrative to keep investing my time and energy. It's my life and I choose to invest in things that reflect values that are important to me. Sabotage and dysfunction are not. As, I said... it's heart-breaking with all that proud history, but there is no pride left in this club, except for the sentimentality of fans looking back. I don't begrudge any fan who would want to hold on in hope (and I still have some), and I would expect fellow fans respect my choices and the reasons which I have shared.
