Attention Penn's...Manly fans say no to Cartwright

The only bloke that loves this club enough to take the job on at this shiitfight is Toovey ....

To get anybody else with a half decent resume, the Penns would need to put into place everything they have denied Barrett ...

Even Henry is not going to sign on unless he is guaranteed changes ......

Cartwright might be the next fall guy ..

This is not just a case of some ebb in the football club cycle. We are plummeting new depths of dysfunction and are falling further and further out of the dialogue. We are slowly becoming irrelevant in the current modern game if this trajectory continues. This current Manly is not the Manly I grew up with. I've been through plenty of ups and downs in our history and stuck by understanding this for over four decades. This is a completely different beast. I don't feel the need to hold onto the "underdog/in the trenches" narrative to keep investing my time and energy. It's my life and I choose to invest in things that reflect values that are important to me. Sabotage and dysfunction are not. As, I said... it's heart-breaking with all that proud history, but there is no pride left in this club, except for the sentimentality of fans looking back. I don't begrudge any fan who would want to hold on in hope (and I still have some), and I would expect fellow fans respect my choices and the reasons which I have shared.

All true ..... and the fans have a lot to answer for as well .... we have a young coach who has stood up to the Penns' and said bring this club up to modern NRL standard ..... and what is our response .... we attack him .....

I'm off to buy some shares in Fantastic Furniture then.

Northern Eagles was way worse...

Win a few games... It'll all go away.
Yeah, it would be a good positive shot in the arm for many, Batty... TBH, even if we start winning some more games (which I would realistically expect with a new start, new season), I don't know whether I "feel" the joint anymore. I'm not sure if I can articulate it well, but I'm just not convinced our current owners have the same agenda and interest as we do as fans. As I mentioned before, the state of Brookie and this club off the field is diabolical. It has just been stagnating and rotting away year after year. It's at a point where if I'm honest and step back, I really shocks and upsets me. I don't know the owners and I don't know their plans, but they are not filling me with confidence for this club's future. I'm just surprised an owner could allow their investment to sit in such a state (especially when you claim to be passionate about it). Where is the pride, self-respect?

Yeah, I have been guilty of having a stab at TB, but I do get where you are coming from, Woodsie. I just find it hard to know who to trust anymore. I have my doubts about TB's coaching ability, but perhaps the TB stand is a good thing for us in the longer term if it stirs some action to start cleaning up the place and getting our act together. But again, I just don't trust our current ownership has any interest in such things and their agenda lies elsewhere.

I too was one of the baying mob. I think it's been a bit of a witch hunt......Sir Belvedere was aware of the fickle foibles of NRL fans...

Barrett has got NO support in the media today for his "tell all exclusive" with Buzz. Its weak way out and only leads to a way he and his manager can get a payout. Im no Penn fan, but Ill back them over Barrett on this one. As for what the club has denied Barrett, only what Slothfield has reported and only what Barrett and his manger are claiming as true. Lot of bullsh1t in what Barrett and Beavis has said IMO.

The issues are easily separated.

Can the Penns spend more money, reengage with fans and make the place better? Yes.

Can Trent Barrett coach?

No defence , no discipline , individual brilliance, under 7 attack in the red zone ,wingers that don’t score tries , benches that are used to seat 2 players close to the action each week so they can get a good view of the game.

The answer is NO!

The guy works 24/7 with these guys and that’s what we get after 3 years. A couple of extra 80k
a year staffers will not change his coaching ability but at the margin will be of use to someone who can coach. So that’s a good thing.

And I agree with yiurself and Woodsie that if Trent’s whinges mean a shake up at the margin it is good for all of us but it hasn’t and will never be a reason for a 39 percent win record, 18 losses this year and a possible spoon. Those things are primarily decided while the witches hats are out on the training paddock , as the big spending Parramatta , Penrith , Dogs , Brisbane and co will gladly attest

This support stuff is important at the MARGIN with guys who know what they are doing to start with. And finally the league fraternity is waking up to it with Barrett.

And Neil Henry will jump at the chance to coach our boys. These guys go from earning chicken feed to 500k plus as head coach and a seat back at the NRL table. To suggest that every applicant will be making demands with that much cash and opportunity on the line is living in fairyland.

Except for the elite coaches the aces are always held by the club in negotiations. That’s just life. Dollars rule.Maguire is in play at the broncos, that’s why he’s not interested. Another year out of the game for him and he’ll be begging for a job.

I think Henry will be our coach.

There's alot of great stuff happening... It just takes time to come to fruition. Unfortunately I think there's been some poor decisions in recent years which haven't helped but I think the club right now is headed in a great direction.

When you sit back and look at what the clubs been through over the past 5yrs till today it's almost amazing we are still standing. 3 CEO's... Coaches... Match fixing... Decade of dominance retirements.... Salary cap issues.... Off field dramas... Failed sponsorships... Poor recruitment....

We have a proven CEO. That CEO is recruiting his team and instilling a new cultute. We have a great squad. We sound very close to getting the centre of excellence. We have a building sponsorship base. A coaching change.

I have had Gorman tell me personally...he just needs time. I believe him.

Anti Manly sells papers...don't get sucked into it.

Clubs headed in the right direction. It just takes time. They'll turn it around. Their building the foundations of success...
I hope so, Batty.

One of the issues I have is that many of those challenges you listed that the club has been through these last 5 years are self-inflicted and reflect on the ownership and management. Some of them were unfortunate circumstances and outside our control, but many of them we brought on ourselves. Yes, there have been some carrots dangled that look promising, I just hope they eventuate as opposed to the eternal ongoing Brookie upgrade joke.

Great post, Sue, and I agree whole-heartedly.

Agree with your sentiments @HK_Eagle - I’d also add, for my two cents’ worth, all of this open, public dysfunction within the club has coincided with a general decline in the quality of the NRL itself, and I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that I wouldn’t be the only person for whom all of that has come along at a time when some ‘life gets in the way’ stuff has also been happening, which has put a new perspective on just how much relative importance footy has to me - a whole lot less than it used to. Some of the ‘life gets in the way’ stuff has led to a conscious decision to invest less time and emotion into things that don’t make me happy, put it that way!

Nice share, Yokahontas.

I think it's a great point regarding perspective. I would echo your experience and as much as Manly has been a very big part of my life, I also find myself questioning priorities as life circumstances have changed and I have grown. TBH, I have enjoyed my time on this forum and love the different personalities, the conflicts and laughs. I am grateful for this group.
