If the indigenous population were wiped out by 'Anglos' (I assume you mean people of Ango-Saxon origin), then who are these 3.2% percentage of Australia's people (Australia: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population summary) calling themselves Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders?

They must be important - more important than any other ethnic group in Australia; they make up 3.2% of the population, yet 6.1% of total government expenditure is spent on them (FactCheck Q&A: is $30 billion spent every year on 500,000 Indigenous people in Australia? ).

If money = 'care' at a government level, then our governments 'care' about these apparently wiped-out people almost twice as much as anyone else. If money does do/show this. At least it shows a lot of attention. For people who were wiped out.

I don't know if the Dutch would have cared this much; one would have to look at their history in their former colonies. (Dutch colonial empire - Wikipedia). Maybe they would - maybe not. Who knows, indeed.
The First Nations population went from an estimated 1-1.5 million before invasion to less than 100,000 by the early 1900s

Professor Lyndall Ryan and her research team has found that there were at least 270 frontier massacres over 140 years of Australian history, as part of a state-sanctioned and organised attempts to eradicate First Nations people.

You also need to account for cultural genocide which was accomplished by 'stolen generation' prohibiting the children from using their language or partaking in their culture.

So the stats that you refer to as 3.2% of the current population, the alarming thing to note is that only 10% of those speak a First Nations Language at home.

So really the damage has been done and unfortunately no amount of money can repair this despite the good intentions of current governments.

None of us are really speaking the language of our ancestors.

Language is a constantly evolving thing. 'English' from 1000 years ago is almost completely non-understandable to people today.

If Australia was 'discovered' tomorrow - noting that little apparently changed in indigenous ways of doing things - what do you think the 'discoverers' would change in finding a large continent complete with people who had changed little in 5000 to 50000 (depending on who you believe) years? And 'conquered' they would be.

The same thing the Romans did everywhere.

The same thing the Persians did everywhere.

The same thing the Greeks did everywhere.

Impose their culture, language and way of doing things on those they conquered.

Thus has it been since time began. Not ideal - but the past is done.

English is now a 'world' language, and the language of business and trade globally. It's detrimental to not be able to speak it in an era of globalization and continued relevance.

By all means, use other languages as you wish. Latin is useful for a career in law and medicine.

Captain Cook arrived in Botany Bay on 29th April 1770 today is NOT the anniversary of European arrival. Today is actually a celebration of the 26th of January 1949, the Australian nationality came into existence when the Nationality and Citizenship Act 1948 was enacted. That was the day we were first called Australians and the Australian Passport was first issued. The first fleet arrived on 18th January 1788. Australia Day is not Shame Day or Invasion Day.
This is a rather strange post. Surely everyone knows 26 Jan 1788 is when capt Phillip hoisted the British flag and claimed the colony in the name of the King (British king). And that date has long been a date of mourning for first Nations people for that very reason.

Anyway the 1948 Act hardly helped First Nations people because they were still unable to vote! Not sure why anyone would think they’d want to celebrate that.

Whatever happened to ‘a fair go’? It’s quite odd to me that any aussie would see a group of Australians doing it tough and simply go, “Stop whingeing/ not my problem/ nothing to do with me”

The Capitalist Economic System is very elitist and doesn't give people a 'fair go'.
The Capitalist Economic System gives privilege to a very small % of the population.
We don't live in an egalitarian society as John Howard and the Liberal Party say we do.
There are a lot of hurdles and obstacles that hinder the lower social classes from climbing the social ladder.
The 'good side' of politics give the lower classes a 'fair go' in regards to Health Care and Education, Arts and Culture, JJ/JJJ Radio, Countdown ( TV show), funding Apprenticeships and Job Training, creating jobs through Public Works, the list goes on.......
People entitled to a 'fair go' are born into wealthy families, with a silver spoon in their mouth and leather patches on their elbows and pay their Uni fees in full upfront........
They drive the Mercedes down to the local Rugby Union game to network with the other Upper Class people.
A 'fair go' is funding Public Schools so that intelligent Working Class kids can compete for the placements at University.
If 'swinging voters' would stop voting for the 'bad side' of politics then more Australians would get a 'fair go'

The Anglo-Saxon settlement in the Netherlands was a movement of continental Angles, Saxons, Franks and possibly English Anglo-Saxons into the lands formerly inhabited by the ancient Frisii, Cananefates and Batavians.[1][2][3] These migrations occurred after the population drop of the Frisii during the 5th century up until the 7th century. These new migrants from northwestern Germany were later referred to as the Frisians by the Merovingian Franks who may have taken this name from older Roman historiography.[4] During these migrations, almost the entire population of the coastal Netherlands was demographically replaced.

Yeah, thanks anyway Jimmy don't need Google, decision to have the Act rattified on 26th January was made by Labor Prime Minister Ben Chifley, who relied heavily on what day would be appropriate, with the guidance ( via Buck House) of Governor General Sir William McKell ex-Labor Premier of NSW. So a pair of Labor pollies happily licked the British boot and started this crap (We didn't hear Albo take responsibilty for that eh eh). I will celebrate Australia Day on any day it is decided is more appropriate, But I will NOT take responsibility or be brow beaten for the actions of the British Army 235 years ago. The Nationality and Citizens Act made all of us Australians, Aboriginal,European, Asian, Pacific Islander, Slavic.
Apart from a small % of people the Labor Party is still quite a conservative political party.
Gough Whitlam was Constituition Monarchist, that's why he accepted his sacking by the Govenor General.
I told Gough many years later that he should have called in the military and arrested Malcolm Fraser and John Kerr.
Bob Hawke and Paul Keating were Right-Wing Conservatives that were responsible for being the architects of Australia's international financial success.
Floating the Australian Dollar and De-Regulating the Bank System.
Luckily, Labor has very progressive social policies driven by their Left-Wing Socialists that have helped millions of Australians.
As an Australian that was born here, I don't celebrate Australia Day.
It's Invasion Day.
There are some Australians that have a deep hatred of Multiculturalism and migrants invading White Australia.
Put yourself in the 'shoes' of the Aboriginals who lived here for thousands of year.
They lived as 'one' with the flora and fauna.
There weren't any diseases or the evils of alcohol to destroy their lives.

To me everyday is Australia Day, everyday is my day.

Politics now has all moved more left from their previous positions to the point it has almost flipped and the left appears to represent more of the "Elites" than the right.

I voted for and had huge respect for the economic reforms of the Hawke/Keating period and never was a fan of how the right talked a whole lot of "BS" about "Labor causing "high interest rates" but these days the left has lost me in basically every element they represent. The right lack progressive ideas but at least i can relate in some respects religiously and not as closely aligned to the "woke" movement.

Keating wanted some form of GST back in 1985 but couldn't get it through, won an election on the fear of a GST and lost an election for being too arrogant and losing touch with middle Australia.
