Back to Earth with a THUD

First Grader
Jake is a gladiator and played with heart....but only Taufua, Perrett , Hastings and Kelly were close in effort.
Really poor effort, was sad to see after a misleading performance last week.
Long season to go but at 1 & 2 puts things in reality.
Never turn up thinking you have 2 points or it will be an egg all day.
Let’s look for a 2 win , 2 loss next week and not think thumping a team by 50, that any other teams would have belted, gives you a false perception of world beaters.
That is earned after week 26 when the real games start.

The next time players come out and say they are going to win the premiership after a week 2 performance expect this kind of performance. They were just too cocky and needed their behinds smacked and Souths duly did it. It’s a long season and one game does not make a premiership team. The will learn from tonight and there’s always next week.

1 from 3, close to the bottom of the ladder. Coach with an almost sub 40% win rate in 3 years of footy.

I think they just bought into the hype this week. I hope the coaching staff smash them this week.

They need a kick up the arse (last week's result aside). They were also ****house in all trials, so they've really won one game in quite a few this year now, after losing the last game last year.

Literally won once in our last 7 starts (but what a win).

I haven't seen much of the game yet but I've seen the stats, heard some on the radio and watched the last 10.
Seems Souffs were up and we were not.
That's a mental thing, that great teams know how to use, is maintaining excellence.
But from what I've seen of this year's comp only the worriers and tigers have been on each week.
For how long remains to be seen
The most consistent teams seem to have the best, most experienced coaches who can keep them mentally in tune.
Trent will get there I think and it's early days. Too early for me to write us off.
Maybe laying off the twitter would be a good idea till they get that hard winning edge this club is famous for.

That is well said!

Mate, trials don’t count for ****. Not important. Only good for a hitout and combinations. If you delve into history, we probably have the worse trial history results in the league, including our premiership seasons.

Sorry @maxta Kelly was ordinary. Bad reads, dropped the ball that led directly to a try and let energy, should Nick name him Jeb Bush.
Mate i must confess to being pretty pi##ed watching, but unlike Uate coming in far too much in defence, seen a Kelly 2 + times come in and close down attacking raids.
In fairness, the outside men were forced into more decisions than they expected after an easy last week....when the opposition had no go forward....back to reality this week.

Yeah mate it was pretty bad all round, jacko Hastings looked to be the best when he was out there. I'd say he'd be in contention to get a run in the starting team.

Understood. And like I say, I love Barrett. But he has a habit of going on massive losing streaks (remember, he equaled the clubs worst ever streak at 7). Trial or not, in our last 7 starts, he's won once. That's not a fantastic run.

Poor leadership; you would have to question DCE's captaincy after that effort. It would appear he wants to be involved in play only when it suits him; he reminded me of Jarryd Hayne yesterday.

I was never confident yesterday. Our 1, 6 7 and 9 are still a big work in progress and South's pack is pretty good and have handy outside backs. If we were complacent we were never going to win. Knew South's would be hungry.

Biggest concern was how poorly our 6 and 7 were. That combination needs a lot of work.

So disappointing .For the players to put that effort in . the conditions ,the early penalties, the hit Sam put on AFB all in the first 10 mins ,The attitude wasn’ There and from that point they struggled to get back in the game

When our forwards are on the back foot I like to think our halves will step up and take back control with selective kicking to slow things down and to regain field position but that just didn't happen. I'm very realistic and I certainly don't expect us to win every game but the headless chook routine of DCE getting caught with the ball on the 5th tackle coupled with a lack of players actually wanting to run onto the ball is what I find hard to digest.

I have to laugh because after last weeks win, I was walking around wondering how we were going to keep this champion team out of the hands of poachers from other clubs and today I'm kicking stones. But as Billy Bragg sang "That's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do" so hopefully Baz gets up them at training this week and gives them a few home truths although I'm pretty sure they'de already be suitably embarrassed.
