Not sure what the fascination is with bringing in assistant coaches. Ennis is the being pushed by the media and Ballin is just Silvertailers fixated by the need to have a former Manly player be the coach. In the NRL era,only Bellamy,Ricky,Des and Flanagan(which doesn’t count), have won premierships without being a head coach elsewhere at either a NRL,NSW/QLD Cup or Super League.
