Not sure what the fascination is with bringing in assistant coaches. Ennis is the being pushed by the media and Ballin is just Silvertailers fixated by the need to have a former Manly player be the coach. In the NRL era,only Bellamy,Ricky,Des and Flanagan(which doesn’t count), have won premierships without being a head coach elsewhere at either a NRL,NSW/QLD Cup or Super League. Assistants are always loved by the players because they don’t make the big decisions and play the “good guy” at the club.Head coaching experience is valuable

Possibly the fascination is fuelled by reports that Ballin met for lunch or coffee with Mestrov, reportedly advising the latter that he sees his professional future back in Sydney. Hopefully in due course as a head coach.
