Yep, from my memory he had as much success as an Air B&B host is currently having in Iran.

There were poor results but I believe the fact his now ex wife and kids were still living in Brisbane and he was commuting every week to Sydney,played a part

But who was he learning to be a coach from. Maybe he wasn’t getting the right training, hopefully that has been remedied working at the donkeys

Not sure what the fascination is with bringing in assistant coaches. Ennis is the being pushed by the media and Ballin is just Silvertailers fixated by the need to have a former Manly player be the coach. In the NRL era,only Bellamy,Ricky,Des and Flanagan(which doesn’t count), have won premierships without being a head coach elsewhere at either a NRL,NSW/QLD Cup or Super League. Assistants are always loved by the players because they don’t make the big decisions and play the “good guy” at the club.Head coaching experience is valuable

Maybe it's like the obsession with young players.
Pick the young guy, he could be anything (because we don't know yet). Pick the shiny untried assistant coach, he might be the next Bellamy/Bennett (you just never know!)

My concern with Siebold is that the players don't seem willing to do the tough stuff under him, and it is costing us winnable matches.

It's either a reflection or poor man management, or bad game plans. Either way we need someone at the helm who can address this glaring issue. To be fair that person could be Siebold, but he needs to get his act together if it is to be him.

Ballin or Ennis might not be the answer either, but Ballin strikes me as the kind of guy who could command respect as a head coach.

It's a huge call. You would think that all the good coaches are coaching. Look at Perth, they even had to settle with Meninga. There just isn't an outstanding list of candidates. Which is why, I guess, it has to be an assistant. All coaches were assistants at one stage. Just like Ciraldo and Webster, for example.

I seen rumours a while ago that Ballin was not liked by players when he was assistant. No idea if it’s true but when you see he has already been sacked for failing in the younger grades I doubt he will be a option.

I certainly wasn’t defending Seibold,I never wanted him there from day 1

I suppose the argument to that is if the young player isn’t what he turned out to be,you can always drop him down to reserve grade and the fact that they’re young,a sensible club wouldnt have spent big $$ on them originally,obviously Manly don’t fall into that category(Schuster and Latu Fainu for eg)A rookie first grade coach would be on more coin than a young up and coming player and more expensive to offload. At least with the player,there’s more exposed form to judge on their abilities than a coach who has only ever been an assistant

I think it's the hope of finding someone outside the very shallow "talent" pool of NRL head coaches. A lot of the time it does feel like a merry go round: the same old blokes (Des, Wayne, Flanno, etc) going from club to club because nobody else has the experience.

I'm always wary of the next "best young coach in the game" hype (primarily because of Barrett), but there are a bunch of newer, younger coaches who appear to know what they're doing: Ciraldo, Fitzy at the Sharks, Woolfe at the Dolphins, Webster at the Warriors, and even Ryles at the Eels.

Mind you, Seibs was once considered the best young coach in the game (and has the 2018 Dally M Coach of the Year award to prove it)…

True,but the examples you’ve given Woolfe was a successful head coach in SL and the other 3 were highly rated by a lot of people,not just Gus trying to stuff Manly over by praising Barrett.Not sure I’ve heard the same praise for Ballin as those other guys
