I tend to agree, but if he is only on 250k or so, as is rumoured, I wouldn't be saying no. It caused problems for the Raiders and the Tigers because he was on big coin. At 250k, like Lodge, there is very little risk.

It's unlikely that Burbo, Brown, etc, would be on a lot more than that, or even less.

Brown was cooked by seasons end and didn’t have the same impact when it mattered in the last few weeks as he had early and mid season.The other 3 are under 30 and it’s debatable whether Lodge had any improvement.Bateman hasn’t played well since his early to mid career at the Raiders and has caused issues at all the clubs he’s been to.In saying that,in typical ST’s form,”if they get him at the right price” I.e. the Tigers pay 75% of his contract,no harm in Manly taking him on

I agree, when a blue chip player who was a huge part of a grand final charge at his previous club is unhappy at a club that just pulled off a wooden spoon three-peat and is an absolute basket case behind the scenes - my first thought is that he's the problem.

I must say Bateman he did play well for the Poms the other day. For Samoa, I thought our new recruit Jaz Tavaga also played very well. Great defence, good passing and always looked to run from dummy half. Could be an astute buy.
