Roberts I will pay, an amazing talent. Better than Boyd? Probably played more footy than Boyd! Roberts greatness was stymied by injury (but he kept playing anyway) Boyd's was stymied by stupidity and Jim Comans

John Gray was an incredibly talented forward who missed the 1978 deciders because of one of his semi-regular run-ins with the referees.

His ball-playing was sublime (just ask Bruce Walker - one of the main beneficiaries), his scrummaging first class (when that still meant something), and he was the man who reintroduced to Australian audiences, the 'around the corner' goalkicking style on the 1974 GB tour. That alone should qualify him as one of the most influential players of the last four decades.

And he could hit hard (OK, not always legally) in defence!

Not the best, but for an unluckiest thread Grand Final wise, Geoff Gerard would come close.

Plays 2 losing GFs for Parra leaves end 1980 - joins Manly, Parra win 3 GFs in row 1981, 1982, 1983.

Plays 2 losing GFs for Manly leaves end 1984 - Joins Penrith, Manly win 1987.

Plays for Penrith, retires 1989, Penrith lose 1990, win 1991.

Geoff Gerard, the antithesis of Glenn Lazarus
