Blake Green Signs

For the record, Blake Green has never kicked a goal in the NRL or the ESL. He hasn't even had one attempt at goal. So unless he has a hidden talent that no one has known about, don't count on him possibly being a goal kicker.

When it comes to first grade next year right now its looking like Walker will be our kicker with DCE, Api and Wright (if he plays NRL) as the back ups.

Hasn't kicked a field goal either, so he has either been saving them up or he won't be much help in that department.

Playing career.
Green made his professional rugby league debut during the 2007 NRL season with the Parramatta Eels before being snapped up by the Cronulla Sharks on a two-year deal. He moved to the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2010, enjoying his most consistent season to that point playing 18 games in the halves.

In October 2010 it was announced that Green had inked a two-year deal with the East Riding of Yorkshire club Hull Kingston Rovers, starting from the 2011 Super League season. Blake is linking up with former colleague Michael Dobson to form a new partnership at half-back for the Robins. Crusaders RL based in Wales currently playing in European Super League were also in the running to sign him as a specialist halfback for 2010's Super League XV.[3][4]

Blake won the Harry Sunderland Trophy in the 2013 Super League Grand Final against the Warrington Wolves on 5 October 2013 as he helped Wigan come from 16-2 down to win 30-16 as he scored the try which moved Wigan 24-16 ahead in a crucial stage of the game as he put on a fantastic display at stand off despite taking a cheap shot on the ground from Warrington's Ben Westwood after just three minutes which left Blake on the ground out cold for a few minutes and with a black eye and fractured eye socket.

On 10 June 2014, Blake announced he would leave Wigan at the end of the season.[5][6] Since returning to the NRL he has been in career-best form with the Melbourne Storm.

Yawn....
I hope I am wrong, but sick of hearing about Manly paying big dollars for players likely past their best, while height impact players sign elsewhere and are not considered due to perceived attitude issues .
At least I can't blame Kelly,

Won't even be Gareth Widdop 0.5. The bloke is ordinary. There is a reason this journeyman has played in 7 clubs in 9 years, yet only played 85 odd games (around 10 per season).

Most teams have him in reserve grade.

He is getting well and truly carried by that spine in Melbourne. This is right up there with the Michael Witt / Jye Mullane acquisitions talent wise.
Sorry but I really think he'll prove you absolutely wrong. He's been very good in RECENT seasons but he was poor back a few years and that is the reasoning for why he changed clubs all the time yet he has found his ability over in England and transformed himself into one of the best and most underrated five-eighths in the comp. Respect your opinion but he could be one of the best signings in years. Will help dce out tremendously

Many differing opinions here, what Manly needed was an established 5/8 just to do his role, and Green can do that after the way he has developed the last couple of years. I am not expecting enormous things from him, but Green is a steady head with a good kicking game. Thinking of it, there are not too many other 5/8's that get be highly excited in the NRL today, so he is a good choice comparing to who we could have got off contract or break their contract.

He is at the latter end of his career and hope injuries are minimal, but more so hope there is a plan for 2018-19 and whatever it is, they come good!

I know there's been a lot of negativity around us showing interest in Uate and he's always been an enigmatic player. But that said, if he does join us and gets on a roll Brookie will roar when he winds up on one of his legendary kick return runs. The bloke's exciting in full flight and Lord knows we all could do with some excitement lol
Isn't that what Nate Myles brings to our club? A new level of excitement? I'm not sure I could handle much more.

Come on Ryano old son, if you watched Blake Green this year, you would glean that his performances have been very good. He is a short term professional solution to giving DCE a foil on the other side of the ruck, ala Foran. I have watched him pretty closely for a few weeks now, and he has been great for the Storm. He will also bring some professionalism into our team, because God knows that has gone out the window in recent times. IMO it is a fantastic signing for short term results....think Michael Monaghan type of signing

I'm hoping that Blake Green can provide a steadying influence on DCE and hopefully take some of the pressure off of him during a game.

Pretty much since Foz pulled the pin half way through 2014 our attack has been one dimensional and easily stymied by simply putting pressure on Daly. Occasionally we looked good but haven't really threatened to rack up a score for a verrrry long time.

Green and Daly in the halves with Walker and Skivvy in the centers could be a fairly potent backline. And then there's Tommy to chime in and Jorge and whomever the other winger is..

Good point on halfway through 2014, not only did Foran decide to play like ****, but as soon as that happened we also lost our halfback who struggled being without a 5/8. Also that when manly went to ****. Hopefully DCE is back on the back of Green and Turbo Tom.

Well it would seem that towards the end of last season our forwards were performing reasonably well, but even with a platform to work with we just had too many injuries/disruptions to have any potency in attack. DCE was either shut down or overplaying his hand and the end result was a lot of incomplete sets and turn overs. It didn't help that we had an average back rower playing center, a truly talented full back playing on one leg, one winger playing with one arm and the other a rookie.

Teams targeted DCE and toweled us up. With some more play making options and a player like Green who's no super star but a steady half to help control play and take general kicking duties when required DCE *should* be freed up to play his natural game..

All we need of a 5/8 is someone with great defence, a good kicking game and a good passing game to not only link our left hand attack, but our inside runners.
Refuse to watch Melbourne game so I can't comment on green, but if he can be consistent in the above area's he will improve us as a club.

I'm a collector as well as a drinker, I have a 240 bottle wine fridge built into the new house, with more than 200 bottles laying down at a constant 15.8 degree's!!

@ManlyBacker and others would like to raid it if they could!!

btw I reckon Blake will go well here. Just needs time to learn our structures (assuming we have a few.)

My suspicions are that Manly are hoping that Tom Wright will turn into the potent 5/8 they are hoping for around 2018-19. If not wait for them to have a crack at Jack Bird who comes off contract at the end of next season.
