"'Pressure will make me better': Buhrer

Few players are named captain in their first game for a new club but Knights Nines skipper Jamie Buhrer believes the pressure to lead a young group will help him to grow as a player.

After seven NRL seasons with the Sea Eagles Buhrer was recruited to Newcastle to help instil the right work ethic into the youngest playing group in the NRL and demonstrate what it takes to succeed in the NRL.

Injuries have kept Buhrer to just 22 games in the past two seasons but in the second half of last season the 27-year-old displayed the type of form that earned him a State of Origin jersey for New South Wales in 2012.

He played every minute of eight games in a row between rounds 17 and 25 and ran for more than 100 metres on each occasion, including one effort of 208 metres against the Dragons."

He's carrying a big weight up there. Hopefully the knees can handle it. Having said that, when we play the Knights I hope they Jnr Paulo him. No hard feelings...

100% because of Ferris, the Knights are now my second team.
I know, I know could be a long season.

Well done Jamie.

It really is a double edged sword. It shows the character of the man to start off as a leader. But unfortunately it also shows the lack of leadership that he has come up here and is already one of their top leaders.

He will become an absolute fan favourite up here. He's personable, lovely, and a quality player. If they have a Knights day around where I live in the Hunter Valley I'll be going along to wish him well.

I wish him well. Jamie represents all that was successful about our dominant sides of the last twelve years, loyalty, great work ethic, comradeship, and game awareness.

And as the story from 2014 below showed, his loyalty was always solid with Manly and I'm just glad he got to play in a winning grand final with the club he loved (and no doubt still loves).

Newcastle got a good one.

A FIRST-half Trent Hodkinson master-class has led the Newcastle Knights to a strong victory against Tweed Heads Seagulls at Murwillumbah (Go Mustangs!!!) on Saturday.

The patched together Knights' side featuring a host of NSW Cup and part-time players, were too strong for Seagulls, running out convincing 38-22 winners in front of a 1000 strong crowd who packed the stands for the clash.

Ffs I love Jamie B as much as the next guy but let's not forget what that club has stood for in the past including robbing us of a GF that I have to see repeated every flammin year

Will never forget what 'that club' did to us but will never take that out on Jamie B. If I had my way - and I'm sure if he had his - he'd still be with us!
