DCE should have been let go. He isnt worth $600k let alone $1mil.

Walker and Myles should never have been signed either imo. One over the hill and one with massive baggage.

All 3 mentioned above could be ruled out with our No Dickhead Policy anyway.

We then keep, Hiku, Ballin and Gutho and maybe others like JSL, Symonds, Horo, Lui and MCK

They then should have chased either of Seizer, Elgey or Maloney and thrown the kitchen sink at Cooper Cronk.

Budget Team (and one that would flog our current line-up in my opinion):

01. Tom Trbojevic
02. Jorge Taufua
03. Clinton Gutherson
04. Peta Hiku
05.
06.
07. Ashley Taylor
08. Darcy Lussick
09. Matt Parcell
10. Jake Trbojevic
11. Marty Taupau
12. Tom Symonds
13. Jamie Buhrer

14. Addin Fanu-Blake
15. Siosaia Vave
16. Brenton Lawrence
17. Shaun Lane

+ Brett Stewart (Retires)
+ Steve Matai (Retires)
+ DCE to Titans
+ Myles remains at Titans
+ Jamie Lyon (Retires)
+ Lewis Brown remains at Panthers
+ Api Koroisou remains at Panthers
+ Matthew Wright, Frank Winterstein not signed

Imagine the $$$$ we would have left to acquire a top end 5 & 6 !!

Seizer, Elgey etc didnt want to come to Manly. Maloney was already snared by Cronulla. We had no one to replace DCE. Points important to remember. DCE wanted to stay for less but Manly bungled the deal because they set their sights on Foran. By the time it was obvious Foran had gone to the Eels, DCE had signed with the Titans. It was always going to be a big ask to get him back, given Titans were offering not far from a million a season.

Thing is having a swipe at DCE is unfair. He had agreed in principle to an earlier smaller offer from Manly, but they withdrew the offer. They were always going to have to pay overs to not only get him back, but to appease and to have him face bad publicity which he handled well. If Fulton hadnt walked in and offered the bigger contract and then grabbed a few other significant players like Taupua, Walker, Parcell, and no established half back, we would be looking at the wooden spoon and the bottom of the comp for several years.

DCE has been carrying an injury, like TT for much of the year, so he hasnt been at his best. But remember this kid helped Manly to our last premiership and almost a second one. He's a top tier half, not as good as Thurston or Cronk (maybe at this stage) but he and the Turbos are the basis of our future team. Blame the club esp the Penns and their hangers on, but not DCE. He always said he wanted to stay at Manly. Manly bungled it, not him.

In hindsight, I think the DCE contract is hurting, and is GOING to hurt us for a very, very long time. I wish he went to The Titans, and they kept Myles as far away from us as possible.

Let's be fair, Myles may be one of the worst signings we have made in our near 70 year history, and apparently it was conditional to DCE signing (or so the rumour goes).

Understand DCE is our marquee signing, and his actual cap hit is probably very, very small (like 300 - 400K in total), but boy, we paid miles for a very, very average halfback.

Everyone's glorifying DCE stop being so naive he dangled his hook around to see what type of offer he could get from numerous clubs (as is his right). But let's not say we offered him a small deal and he agreed to it because then why didn't he just sign straight away instead of having that whole media circus.

Maloney was the big miss for us. He has taken Warriors to the gf, Roosters to a premiership and several gfs and now taking the Sharks to the gf and maybe there first ever premiership. Very very very underrated player.

And just on DCE he walked into a champion team in 11'. So he didn't take us to a title, that great team did. I get the feeling his contract will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in the Manly modern era. He needs to deliver at least one more premiership for it to be justified. Only time will tell.

How many years are we stuck with that heap of sh*t Myles?

Sure DCE has been disappointing, but he is far from the biggest problem we have.

Jonathon Thurston's record during some tough years at the Cowboys in 2008 (equal last), 2009 (12th) and 2010 (2nd last - Storm were last due to salary cap cheating) is worth noting.

Put Thurston in our 2016 side and we still don't make the finals IMO. Put DCE in the 2016 Cowboys team and they're still top 4 for sure.

The point of this is not to compare DCE to Thurston - Thurston is in a different league. The point is that even if you have a champion half, if you surround them with sh*t players, sh*t coaching staff and a sh*t culture (as we have done with DCE), you will get sh*t results.

I think maybe you need to go and have a re-read of what went down with DCE.

He DID agree to sign for the $800k but then Kelly pulled the offer and they effectively told DCE to get stuffed and went hell for leather for that piece of s%it, Foran.

Why the hell would he not look at other options in that situation?

It was only after Foran officially signed with the Eels that Manly came crawling back to DCE. If I were him I'd play hardball at that point too.

DCE has won a comp, played for QLD and Australia and is a Clive Churchill Medallist id dare say he' s abit better than average! Like @MadMarcus said, swap Thurston and DCE this year and I don't think there woulda been much of a difference in where both teams woulda finished on the ladder.

Another 2 mate. Yikes. Imagine his pace with another 2 years of footy under his belt (baring in mind, he'll only probably play around Origin time, and be injured the rest).

Good to see Ferris keeping him, Stewart, Matai on the field, and convincing Lyon to play another year as he promised when coming on board with his "amazing fitness regime".

It's not even that. We have seen him play in a direct, confident fashion in the past, so what we are seeing is bull**** - we all know he can be better - we've all witnessed it.

What is with the crabbing sidewards, dummy, dummy, circle, circle again, get smashed - play goes nowhere strategy?

He used to play MUCH more direct. He ran holes. His defense was crisper. His energy levels were up. He was more of a presence. He was a leader. His nickname should be Casper these past 2 years.

Ok, I know everyone will give him excuses for his drop in form, but in my opinion, when he put pen to paper on a 1.2M per season contract for 8 straight years, his ability to spew forth excuses disappeared.

I'm trying to think of a worse "big name" signing from us in recent years than Myles? ..... I am struggling.

He had an decent 6 next to him when he did that. It's pretty ****ing obvious. With no 6 defences rush up and tee off on him. He had nowhere to go but sideways. When Lyon played next to him DCE's attack improved. This is not anything new or some amazing insight. It was discussed here to death throughout this past season.
