I believe Cleary was coaching the Penrith firsts team when Manly signed Trent Barrett. Cleary was fired for poor performances before going to the Tigers.

See the difference Cleary comes into a rabble doesn't panic tells moses to go tedesco out and woods hit the road no panic 10 year deal at ridiculous money to get 1 of them to backflip. That's a very good question @tookey and its one I'd like the answer to too.
I've kept thinking he'll come good but it seems there's some excuse for every loss, be it ref's calls, injuries, or whatever, and the excuses are starting to wear thin. Shows no guts by dropping players (ala Ricky Stewart), only shows Mr Nice Guy.
If only we signed Cleary...at least he has Manly blood.

All this overspending money on players, but when it comes to a coach manly has moths in their wallet. Anyone with half a brain knows that it is the coach that makes the players. At this rate we will never challenge for the title.
