The South Sydney Rabbitohs and Michael Maguire have agreed today to part company effective immediately.
Following a Board meeting today, the Club met with Michael and it was agreed that it was in the best interests of all parties that Michael's contract as Head Coach come to an end.
Rabbitohs General Manager of Football, Shane Richardson, said: "Michael helped deliver the premiership title in 2014 and for this we will always be indebted to him. He led us to the premiership victory, the 2015 Auckland Nines win and the 2015 World Club Challenge.

I remember a few years back everyone was screaming that Wayne Bennett was past it and the game had passed him by....while Wayne has had some phenomenal rosters, he can coach. Des Hasler has made finals football for 12 years in a row, won 2 Grand finals and made 5 deciders in that time. Irrespective of Dessies stale taste at the Dogs, I believe he's just the type of coach that would take say a Panthers team deep into the finals, or win the State of Origin at first crack for the Blues. You can bet that Hasler will be fastidiously devising his approach to whatever team he ends up taking all off season. Love him or hate him, he can coach and I believe will have success again in the future.
Wayne Bennett was past it because he was coaching a Newcastle team that had a below par roster , a club in financial crisis .
Hasler is in a club with plenty of money and he spent it the way he liked it like a drunken sailor
No comparison here .

Same Ralphie... there will always be a part of me that feels uncomfortable at death riding Dessie. When he first defected, i had so much hatred towards him, more so because of the club he chose to go to. But time heals, and I believe he will come back at some stage.

Mate he made two GF in tat time and the finals every year. You go on about Bozo (who I respect and love as a true Manly man) and compared to him Des has won 4 GF as a player or coach and Bozo 5. And I'd suggest other than the legendary Manly squad he put together, Wayne had had many more advantages than old Desmond.
The defence specialist... we sucked last yr and Souths were hopeless with him this yr lol

Let's not forget Baz is off to the Dogs.
I was comparing Waynes failure at Newcastle who had no money and a below par roster to Hasler who is with a wealthy club had all the players he wanted .
Haslers last 2 years have been disappointing and being the head coach the only head on the chopping block that is responsible for the dogs demise is Des .
Was he a great coach ? Yes
Did he win a grand final for the Dogs ? No
Has he been a great coach in the last two years ? No
Personally I thin Des is a fabulous coach but he just surrounded himself with numbskulls at the Dogs, who couldn't understand his match plans. Yep, a huge forward pack but realistically, in comparison to other teams, no 'halves'. They always say that forwards win you matches, but the halves have to create the opportunities to do it.
