MANLY are set to announce the re-signing of back-rower Curtis Sironen on a three-year $1.25 million deal.

The contract extension comes amid the club’s salary cap issues and will keep Sironen at the Sea Eagles until the end of 2021.

The former Wests Tigers forward played 16 games in his first season at Manly in 2016, scoring six tries.

Sironen started in every game last year before a pectoral tear in June forced him to undergo surgery. He did not return until Round 26.

Manly officials, including coach Trent Barrett, were highly impressed with the rising forward’s form and resolve to return during his time on the sidelines and it’s a major reason why they want to retain him.

Sironen also rediscovered his love for the game during his maiden year at Manly.

This wasn’t the case in his final season at the Tigers in 2016, when he was either injured or in reserve grade.

At the time of signing a two-year deal with the Sea Eagles in ‘16, he made his career intentions clear.

“I want to be playing first grade. When I spoke to Trent (Barrett) for the first time, he won me over straight away with his enthusiasm,’’ Sironen said. “This is a good fresh start for me.

“There is a great core of young players here at Manly, a number of internationals, as well as an experienced mix of forwards.

“I want to show what I can do. I want to reach my potential and I’m sure I can do that here at Manly.”

This is exactly what Sironen achieved at the Sea Eagles last season.

The son of Balmain legend Paul Sironen rediscovered his finest form and is now considered one of the most improved players in the NRL competition.

The 24-year-old will form a strong back-row partnership with former Dragon Joel Thompson at Manly this season.

Sironen’s signature in the midst of the club’s third party issues is proof new CEO Lyall Gorman is trying to push forward and build a competitive roster.

The Sea Eagles have 12 players off-contract this season, including Lewis Brown, Brian Kelly and Aku Uate.

Gorman has also confirmed the Sea Eagles remain hopeful of signing Trent Hodkinson to partner Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves this season.

Hodkinson’s mooted move to Brookvale hit a roadblock prior to Christmas due to the club’s cap issues.

It’s understood Manly are ready to offer the former NSW Origin half a contract, but they won’t be given the green light until the NRL is satisfied that their cap dramas have been resolved.

The Sea Eagles were granted an extension to their breach notice issued on December 11 and have until the end of January to file their submission.

Until then, the NRL is unable to complete its investigation it is unlikely any new contracts will be registered.

Despite this, Manly are confident of signing Hodkinson and retaining other contracted players in the coming weeks.

Good news about Sironen. Looks like we are almost certainly getting Hodkinson (Subject to the cap bull**** being called bull**** of course)

If thats the case our 30 man squad is complete, DCE and Hodko as the halves, Fainu/Croker/Hastings/Brown competing for the 14, 15 AFB, 16 Perrett, 17 Winterstein/Lane plus a heap of potential first grade backrowers and Sipley/Paseka keeping the bench on their game. The rest of the team except for Walker's injury worries more or less picks itself.

I hope that Hodkinson has a good year, and that his injury management works out both for him and the club.

Sirro, Thomson and Jake as our long term back row is very exciting in deed. The pack is looking balanced and if our new props step up and support Marty we will have a feared and reveared pack! Along with a pretty slick backline. If injuries dont knock the squad around too much it’s top 4 for me!

Good news flowing in of late

Starting to look a stacked side for 2018

"three-year $1.25 million deal".

So that roughly translates to $300k-$400k-$500k. Cheap.

He WANTS to be here for a long time.

Exactly what clubs want.

Love him.
That's around 400k a season and compared to the elite second rowers that is cheap but from what I have seen so far from him he is not compared to the elite second rowers yet .
Jack Gosiewski will keeping all our back rowers honest . For those that have not seen him play , Jack is a gun .

Hastings
Lane
Lussick
Croker
Jono Wright
Kelepi Tenginoa
Jake Gasiewski
Sirro about to extend .........
The way I see it
*Lewis Brown has ZERO chance of an extension. One of the worst players to wear our proud colours I have seen.
*Jono Wright will pack his bags and join Brown
*Jake Gasiewski will need to prove he is not injury prone
*Uate now over 30 will have to prove and negotiate his 500k a season Knights contract .
* Lussick needs to show more maturity and consistency of a senior player
*Tenginoa at 24 years of age has had opportunities with the Eels and the Cowboys and 2018 is the season that he could make a big impression with his big frame but big frames don't necessary mean they become big names .
* Kelly - The club is in no hurry to extend his contract as they have lots of options with gun players like Parker , Tom Wright and a few other NCY players with potential who have all had their contracts extended .

API Main one to be re signed he will have some interest. Uate needs to be realistic on money he wants 2 year deal maybe.

Yes mate , My mate is a mad Souths supporter and he has Fox tv and I have seen Jack play . He reminds me of a young Ian Roberts the way he runs and takes on the defence . There is no side way running or half hearted effort from Jack .

So, you watched Jack play his one (1) game last year .... which he didn't finish due to injury .....

Jack has played 6 NRL games and I had seen 4. I have also seen him play for South's feeder club North Sydney and he reminds me of a young Ian Roberts . Left a huge impression on me . My friend who is a South's tragic rang the club to vent his disappointment at not resigning Jack and was told that although the new head coach acknowledged Jack quality as a player he did not want to sign players that are injury prone and sit out most of the season . Jack has had a bad run with injuries .
