Cust will tip Elgey to partner DCE

First Grader
Well based on form he was well better and was only in his third game.
Started to take the line on setting up a try and 1/2 breaks in that 2nd stanza.
He made a few errors but also kept his head including a 1 on 1 strip at a vital moment, plus his kicking game though far from perfect, was well superior to Elgeys tonight.
Will Cust hold out Elgey and a fit Croker when all are available....I would lean that way , but interested in other opinions...

I'd take Cust over LG any day.....but I'd have Croker before either of them.

I'll be the first to admit that 12 months ago I wouldn't have said that about Croker.

Just remember.....Cust may have had a decent 5 minutes, but the other 75 he was garbage. Not as garbage as LG, but bad enough. And yes I do know its only his 3rd game, but right now to me both are only there because DCE and Croker aren't.

I don’t care if either Crocker or cust partner DCE ! As long as it’s not Elgey !!!!

This game showed how important DCE is to manly I really really hope he comes out injury free through origin we need him ASAP

Cust is starting to show the form he displayed in the under 20s. Let’s see how he develops as he starts to feel more comfortable in first grade.

Personally understand the Croker option, as he was doing super in 2019 pre injury.
In fairness, Cust maybe shined extra in my eyes due to the poor form of Elgey, who was not inspiring and at times...down right frustrating to watch....Elgey was known for a good kicking game that I am yet to see and in a game where DCE was out and he was by far the experienced head in the halves, expected him to take far more control.

LG was pretty poor. Kicking game never threatened and never got a repeat set. Can see why he was unwanted at the Titans. With just a handful of games under his belt, Cust looks promising. Definitely better than LG and I think ahead of Croker purely on raw talent.

I really really dislike Elgey

Should've had his papers stamped when he said no to us 4 years ago

In that time he couldn't even keep a spot at the tits

What an absolute bust, reminds me of Ryan Leaf, huge wraps with no output , ****ing scrublord

Cust is definitely the future, it's a bit of a shame that we signed Elgey at all, he has only had a couple of good games

Agree Cust is ahead of Elgey and like his willingness to take on line, nice dummy , plays tough etc And he has only played 3 games so he has a lot of upside.
BUT his kicking game is so far away from first grade standard right now.To be honest it’s awful and that has been the knock on him for a while apparently. The stuff he and Elgey dished up tonight is as bad as I’ve seen in first grade.

It’s a tough one because he has a lot of good points but if you ain’t got a kicking game as a half not sure you can get picked. Needs to do a lot of work in that area so I’d have Croker ahead at this stage.

Elgey comes to a NEW club, culture, system, and his backline has consisted of players like:

Cade Cust (juniors last year)
Abbas Miski (reserve grade currently)
Moses Suli (dropped by various clubs)
Brendan Elliott (reserve grade at all clubs)
Reuben Garrick (reserve grade last year)
Jorge Taufua (shadow of former self)
Brad Parker (getting there, but not great)

Okay, he's also had 1st graders in DCE and Walker, but only rarely, and has had to change his style many times.

Talk about not giving a guy a fair go. People forget we are 6th with all these.i juries occuring, and he's been the focus point of our attack.

And people call me harsh.

Give him Tommy and DCE, Walks is now back...Garrick is fine. Hey, even Parker is bordering okay now.

He'll be really good.

Although I do have a great feeling about Croker.

I think LG is a fair support at 6 with Chez.
Des "rested/dropped" him v the Raiders and went with Croker at 6, DCE goes down so he's back in first grade as a 7.
Three weeks later he's still our 7 with a three game rookie and both starting centres - Suli & Parker - gone
We've punched above our weight thus far but we seriously missed Jake tonight, the middle was loose - Waddell got found out tonight and it seemed like it was personal with some of the Panthers that got the better of him - Walker was left centre when he was right centre last week.
Fainu getting f*(ked up in the warm up.
All the little bits add up and LG and Cust just weren't up to it tonight.

How does having good players around you help when you play eighty minutes of football somehow thinking it is a good idea to put up midfield bombs with no height (giving away field position every time) with absolutely zero result and then think that is also the play that will win the game in the eightieth minute.HE made those decisions with time on his hands at the end of every set against a side every bit as decimated as us. He never looked to change this ridiculous tactic. Didn’t enter his mind after 70 minutes and zero points.

And he also had the advantage of watching close hand Maloney turn us around on early tackles and find space on the ground with almost every kick . This after four years of NRL experience. Cust at least has the excuse of three games in.

I have been hoping Kane might come good because I know he has a decent skill set but his his decision making and kicking game tonight was the worst I have ever seen in a Manly jersey from a half. And that is a lot of games and quite a few average halves ,believe me. It was absolutely and totally shambolic and to be quite frank, embarrassing , from a bloke on 400k a year. For a bit of perspective Roberts is on similar money. Throw him in our side and see how we go.Dylan scored three tries tonight past Yeo feeding off Roberts flat spiral passes.

He has no self belief and absolutely no interest in mixing it physically at the advantage line. That total lack of physicality is the telltale sign when they are shot ducks; Taylor is the same. With a fit roster he doesn’t play again. Simple as that .Des won’t accept performances like that.Unfortunately I think his is career in the NRL is over when DCE / Croker returns.
