DCE and Foran. Is it working?

XV-1

First Grader
2022 we have had our wish for over 12 months like we wanted in 2016 with these two wonderful play makers in the same team.

Is it working?

Do these two players spend enough time working as a team on the same side of the field? I don't see it very often - why?

At the moment they might as well be on different teams as they don't jump into each others side of the field to help our attack.

Penrith with Cleary and Luai work as a team, on separate sides and the same side.
Why aren't DCE and Foran doing it?

It would certainly take a LOT of pressure off Turbo and give us more options in attack.

Your thoughts please.

Luai never plays right, they only combine on a long left shifts. In our case we use Schuster on the long lefts. It's not working great because Schuster isn't there.

I think a lot of what’s contributing to the lack of opening up other teams , Is the go forward from the forwards , The 2 games so far Manly’s pack aren’t getting a roll on they aren’t dominating the opposition
Till Manly can rectify that part of the game we won’t see the 1/2’s dominate or even Tommy for that matter
It does appear that our 1/2’s do there own thing on there sides though

The roll on is a pretty significant factor. A couple of early dropped balls, 6 agains or penalties has put us on the back foot and the opposition has been good enough - 'clinical' enough - to keep the pressure on and next minute we are gassed and under the pump.
Which doesn't explain the Chooks first try last week, it was poor covering from the inside forwards. But we don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water. (In fact that is never a good idea!)

I dunno, wot if its a really uggo baby?

Might be because we have had 40% of possession ... and 90% of that has been in our own half.

If we continue to drop the ball, give away penalties this will continue.

But, what does this have to do with DCE & Foran never combining when we have the ball?

Just that I would think it was weird for them to be doing it inside our own 2om zone.

Last week we had 3 or 4 opportunities in attack inside Roosters 20. All opportunities ended up with nothing.

They exclusively stayed their own side. Why? Having 2 great ball players on one side has got to create some doubt in the mind of the defenders?

100% certain that DCE played both sides .. in fact from memory spent most of it attacking on our left, Foran's side ...

Not unusual for a 5/8 to play mainly one side .

The spacing between DCE and Haumole was off in the first try. Spacing is usually organised whilst the attacking player is held down, before getting up to play the ball. The ‘off’ spacing seems to be the result of not controlling the ruck in a way that allows the defence time to organise itself. We were in tatters from the opening kick off due to a complete lack of intensity.

You’re certainly correct that there was poor cover, but just pointing out the reason for it. Haumole shouldn’t be running from left to right with his inside shoulder exposed. With a controlled ruck, he would have been in position and wouldn’t have needed to.

Regardless of any other factors, this is a question worth asking.

From appearances - and it's only my thoughts - I thought they combined more years ago. That impression may not be accurate, but it's only an impression.

It's not our biggest issue by a stretch, but worth some thoughts.
