I wonder if the rumoured signing of AOB has some influence on this? 🤔. Newcastle have big money wrapped up in their top players so it wouldn’t be surprising if they decide to go with the cheap & talented back row pairing of Cant + McEwen over the next few years

Doesn’t add up as to why NC would let him go. He’s a future origin player and captain of the Knights. Honestly would be our best signing in decades given the current state of our backrow stocks.

He’s good but he’s also 25 and played a grand total of 41 first grade games. I think some of the superlatives in this thread are a bit premature. I’d still like it if we signed him though.

Brown, Pong, Best, who knows, even Young’s reportedly on 500k, they signed Mooney to a 4 year deal rumoured to be 500 - 600, they’ve also let a few go, Thompson, Brailey, KPP, told Gamble and Cogger they are free to go, picked up Kepaoa from Penrith who can add to their utility value as a edge, maybe they know they won’t have the funds to get it done for 28, there currently flush for edges, Frizel, Lucas, Cant, Jones and couple of youngsters on their books, through in potentially Kepaoa.

Who knows, they may not have the cap space to secure him beyond 27, hopefully we could steel him early if there’s any substance to the rumour.

I highly doubt the wheels are in motion for 2028. If there’s any substance to the rumour, you’d have to think it’s an early release that both club and player are onboard with.

I can’t see why any discussion would be had pertaining to 2028 in 2025, about a 25 year old edge forward with 41 games experience from the current wooden spooners…he’s a decent enough footballer but he’s hardly the talk of the NRL, so why would his contract be up for discussion at this stage?
