Enough is Enough - That Darren Albert Try

That nrl season doesn’t bother me there were 2 comps going on arl & super league it wasn’t a true indication of them being real champions. We know broncos in the super league had the best side.

The Mark Coyne SOO try for QLD was the best I ever saw there, and I was right on the corner where it was scored!!

The amount of hands the went through was incredible!!!

Lets not forget that early in that movement, Steve Renouf's pass to Willie Carne went about 2 metres forward......

The irony for me about Coyne's step to get back inside the defence and score.....was that it was Brad Fittler he stepped and Freddie had one of the best sidesteps I've seen.

As for the 1997 GF.....unfortunately the ARL had basically put a LOT into having the Knights stay on their side of the war and they heavily relied on the fan support they got in Newcastle. They were never going to take that win away from them regardless because of the backlash it would have caused. But that blonde gits try was nothing special as a try on its own, it was just what the try did which was win a GF at the death.

We would have been an even better side than we were if we still had Matthew Ridge in 1997. Craig Hancock and Shannon Nevin did OK at fullback, but Hancock was an out of position winger and Nevin would never have even been in first grade if not for Hancock breaking his ankle late in the season against the Worms.

That and Craig Field being part of the team. Why we ever signed him is beyond me.

If I recall correctly, Jim serdaris was suspended from the game the week before as well, and I always thought that if he’d been there, it would have been him at marker and he would have made that tackle one off the ruck and stopped the play before they got the ball to Albert.

Good mates with Coyney....was still a junior at the time, but played in a touch team with him and a few other ST G players and that step - always right to left, beat players even when they knew it was coming - very humble bloke which makes it sweeter..

He was lucky to be on the end of it but still had some work to do to score.

Best try I’ve ever seen live!!

And as a NSW supporter , sitting in that corner , in front with 2 minutes to go it was shattering!!

But you had to give it the recognition, an absolute ball tearer!!

They , Matty Johns , really S...t me when they carry on about how great a year that was for them, but they never talk of the aftermath of that game, with the drugs and all. I think its called selective memories

Yes but then I have selective memory too, I can't for the life of me remember this supposed Top try, as far as I know we won !!! Though I do remember having to replace a few items that were broken around about the same time the supposed try was scored, makes me think I am missing something .....
If this is one of the best try's at the SFS, league is in trouble. I agree with the Coyne try though, incredible.

That Grand Final should have been stripped. 3 players (one being the man of the match) later done for steroids. Up there with the 07 and 09 grand finals that should never be counted.
100% agree. Were we playing Newcastle that day or East Germany? Robbie O' went round Terry Hill like he was Florence Griffith Joyner for their first try and carried more people over the line than Fifita did for his match winner in 2016 with his second. Why when this GF is brought up, does the Clive Churchill medalist become the forgotten man ?. There was some bu**sh*t ad featuring Matty Johns last year, that emphasised how Newcastle never gave up and kept on coming that day. When at least 17.6% of your squad later test positive you get an idea of how they pulled it off ! Should have been the biggest sporting scandal of the time, but due to the circumstances of the time, got swept under the carpet.
