Facilities Schmilities...

Girl next door never did cotton on to why she always got picked in the skins team .... we did learn that her mother didn't have a sense of humour though ....
Our sport teacher at beacon hill high made the same joke repeatedly.

Our league Journos are a pack of hyenas who latch onto any bull**** rumor and try to make a story out of it showing little regard for whether it is true or not and no regard for the pain or harm it mighty do to clubs and individuals. Never revealing their source inventing some sort of privilege protecting them being held to account. What on earth has happened to our Journos? Have they lost all sense of integrity and social conscious? The mob that should be under the microscope are the NRL and not the poor clubs trying to survive in the disorganized mine field created by the NRL. Why aren't the Journos screaming about the injustice of the NRL allowing this appeal procedure to run the entirety of the season in effect crippling a single club. Why isn't Greenberg being grilled about this and answers sought as to the reasons why. IMO our League journos are lazy, self interested, agenda driven hatchet men.

I got a text message from somebody in the know earier today and it was quite surprising.

Apparently Trent feels the facilities are a major hider-er of being able to use the 17th man on the bench. Even going as far to say the facilities are so lacklustre he can sometimes only rotate two men off the bench and watch on in agony as the other two rot on the sideline as the game slips away and the score piles on.

On occasion it even goes as far as to force his hand in team selections and continue picking the same squad regardless of results.

Im lead to believe its not a good situation at all.

I don't think it is about the facilities, that is all media speak and speculation.

I'm pretty sure the fact that we don't have a recruitment manager, or director of football, as every other club has, would be front and centre in this ****fight.

You can give Trent recruitment managers , directors of football and centres of excellence but this incompetent coach that has grossly underachieved will not give any club excellent coaching and a winning culture .
Trent has proven that he is not Manly . He is Mediocre .

So, that is your opinion, and that of many others on here. My response was to the question re facilities, not to whether Barrett is competent or not. I have my own opinion on the situation, and don't get involved in the "lemmings jumping off a cliff" theory. Further, what if he decides to stay, should we have a ceremonial burning of our jerseys? And, how much fun is it going to be if Barrett, and his young team kick on this year and win a premiership in 2019? Perhaps you should wait until the dust settles rather than working yourself into a lather, especially when he may very well be coaching us next couple of years?

Some worthwhile humour in this thread. But, at the risk of being boring, my understanding was that Barrett's complaint was lack of support, not lack of facilities.
Even in his non-interview this morning he said he enjoys the actual coaching part of his job as a coach.
My guess is it is the lack of a CEO to deal with player issues such as the Hastings leak early in the year (that would have pissed anyone off)
Lack of professional recruitment staff ... salary cap manager (should be an obvious one for Manly), football manager (eventually filled by Guantanamera)... full-time wrestling/ju-jitsu coach.... that sort of thing.
Could be wrong. In fact I hardly care by now. I just enjoy seeing Manly in the news, we have a long, long, boring off-season approaching very quickly.

Many believe that at the top of Barrett's list of frustrations with the club are its facilities or lack thereof, but the coach refuted that claim.

"I've read some of the things written about the gym and facilities, but, our gym is fine," Barrett said.

"We re-built the gym when I got here. Narrabeen is a wonderful place for us to train.

"A lot of the things that have been written aren't correct."

I particularly find it ironic .... that for 3 years I have read posters on this forum abuse the Penns for not fully funding the club to the same levels of other teams, .... and when one bloke has the courage and gonads to call them on it and demand that they provide the resources he was contractually promised ..... the very same posters attack him like hysterical hyenas ...

An outsider would consider that there is only one bloke who cares ....

The other ironic twist is ..... if he leaves .... you can bet any incoming coach won't sign until those very same resources are provided ...

400-metre athletics track
25-metre, six-lane heated indoor pool
Sports Recovery Centre with hot and cold plunge pools
Multi-purpose indoor sports gymnasium
Aquatic centre – canoeing, kayaking
Five multi-purpose ovals
Cricket nets with synthetic pitches
Weights room – for elite sports strength and conditioning
2 tennis courts with lighting
Synthetic multi-sports courts suitable for netball and futsal and cross training
Sports science.

They also just resurfaced the track - I know because my daughter had her sports carnival there.

Now - what the **** is with all the complaining about the facilities. Indoor pool, newish gym, good fields, indoor courts... What more do these guys need..? I may be biased towards Narrabeen but seriously - can't the media and everyone else quit with this bull**** about our facilities! What makes any other teams facilities better? Oh - the demountables..? Who ****ing cares where some staff member has an office. The actual players have decent facilities in a very nice location.

Rant over.
Mate, i been into weight lifting for the last 15 years and have trained at hundreds of gyms ranging from basic fitness first to high level strength and conditioning gyms which coast me over 150.00 a week, I have trained at Narrabeen, even before the reno 2 years ago and it was good then (a little older, but weights are weights) They use to make them a lot better anyway! Its even better now! Plus having the lifestyle to train at Manly is huge with the beaches and outdoor facilities they have there. The waratahs use to train there for years! Its about the training environment and the people you train with that matter the most.

The actual ground needs a revamp though. Really hope we can the funding for the new stadium. The change rooms are pretty sad

You nailed it

To me it feels as though he just wants more support from the ceo, more funding from the Penn's and to get his staff organised like a general manger and recruitment officer. Cant blame him in that regard, the owners and CEO have handled things poorly this year, its not Trent's responsibility to carry all the load, probably just feels as though he is trying to do his very best to win games and rebuild the club but not getting much support.

Barrett says he happy with the physical environment but not so happy with the social environment
Begs the question then that he may not be strong enough mentally to deal with all the goings on at the club . Yes he shouldn’t have to deal with that ,should be just about the team environment
Most footy clubs have S&#%T going on
Some coaches can deal with eg: Hasler But even he might have had enough when he walked
To me it seems Barrett is struggling to deal with it all and with not winning games it all adds up and wants help (understandable )
Some people are are stronger mentally to deal with it and some aren’t Barrett falls into the latter it appears

I am not burning my beloved Sea eagle jersey for no one as no one is bigger than our great club .
If Trent is coaching us the next couple of years it will be lost years because from what I have seen Trent has been unable to lift our team and is lost for solutions .
I have no patience for mediocrity and as a long time financial supporter of the club I like to voice my passion for it
What is the difference between Trent and Peter Sharp ?
Answer: One has got more hair

I saw two Sea Eagles today. Two. I thought they were pelicans when I first saw them up ahead but as I inspected closer, the huge beautiful birds turned out to be Sea Eagles. Just sharing this because this season is rubbish and I'm claiming this sighting as a good omen.
Go Manly!
