Fitness - Whats the verdict ?

ATT Mr Penn.........I really believe we have a top 8 side, the problem is as everyone on here knows, we don't have a top 8 coach, we have a set of forwards who can match it with any team in the comp, all we need is a coach that can inspire/enable the whole team to work as a unit, so the sooner Barrett goes , the sooner we start winning...

Let's look at some facts:

X Ferris has been a head fitness coach for two teams. In that time, his team's have won 0 finals. That's right, 0 in 7 years.

X I have personally spoken to someone at the club (and I did impart the comments directly to Lyall Gorman) that Dan Ferris has bullied certain members of staff, and that he is part of the segregation culture within the group. Fact.

X Opinion only here. Not one of our players look fitter than they did the year before. Take injuries out of this, because Ferris can't control broken feet, ACL's, and all that. What he can control is our players looking spent after 10 minutes. Commentators are constantly calling us lethargic, lazy, slow. Our play the balls are Titanic like.

Fact again: Matt Ballin on Fox tonight suggested he wanted to, and hoped to be part of OUR club again one day. This is our opportunity to get a fitness guy, that:
1. Loves Manly, and has Manly blood;
2. Is a fitness mentor already;
3. Learned under Singe, and QLD Origin coaches;
4. Is a proven winner;
5. Was well known as a mediator, not a trouble maker or bully.

Ferris perceives as sloppy, and in my opinion, has added 0 value to our club, and is an unsuccessful Cartwright ring in.

Now's the time to rid ourselves of this bum. There has to be some accountability for seasons 1 and 3 under Barrett. We've equalled the club's worst ever losing streak in 2016.

If Gorman has ANY credibility, he needs to set a standard. Keeping this bully, and gronk around, is a death sentence to.our club. I've told Lyall who imparted information about him to me.

Sack Ferris.

Matt Ballin is all Manly but taking Manly out of the equation, he just strikes me as someone who could be one of the best in the league when it comes to training fitness and conditioning. Knows his stuff and has walked the walk. Totally professional and approachable as well. Every time I've met him, I've walked away thinking to myself that he is one of the most incredible people that Manly has ever had. We would be bonkers to refuse his services if he was offering.

Also I don't like Ferris.

Fitness experts... pfffft

Back in my day you got a skipping rope, a pair of boxing gloves and some dunlop volleys to run in.

If that wasn't enough then get back into macrame ya latte sipping ne'er do wells!

And not a fancy skipping rope like those soccer players probably use... but some rope from the local Mitre 10 store...and not the fancy rope either!

and we had to tie a rock in the middle of it so if we stuffed up it would crack us in the head.

And not one of those fancy pants luxury rocks either! One of those tough rocks from the other side of the tracks. the working mans tracks too, not the white collar tracks.

we used a red brick with the holes in it. Hurt like a bastard.

Must be about it mate....and I was sitting here thinking a late Dylan Walker penalty won that game against Canberra ? .....anyway back to 2018 and its worked wonders right :wondering:

How would you know this?

You said you have not seen the tactic we used "in 40 years" yet we used it last year. Obviously you missed the game as you did not see it as previously stated but now are claiming knowledge?

very confused

So you are a fan of these kicks into touch when behind on the scoreboard in attacking positions ??.....well it is a forum based on opinion after all.....

never said I was a fan, just pointing out it had been used recently with success since you missed that game.

Back in my day we had to skip with a rusty chain that had an axe tied to the middle whilst on hot coles

You do realise a game plan to kick away from dangerous wingers in general play, is a big difference to being on the attack and behind on the scoreboard and booting the ball in to touch right ??
Also the fact that game was in 2017 and we are discussing 2018, this season I have not seen this tactic do anything else than show a negative mentality and as a supporter adds to the frustration of not just losing, but losing holding up a white flag.

Unless a side is defending a lead at the latter stages of a game or half , can only be rated a very negative and listless tactic and also an almost submissive signal that your side lacks both attacking and defensive confidence. and ability. Applying pressure and promoting or enabling scoring opportunities should be the main objective and must boost the opposition"s confidence when such meek tactics are openly used . Even if the attacking side does not get a result with a high attacking kick , at least it should restrict the meters that can then be gained on then bringing the ball out and less opportunity to reset their attack . Manly scored at least a couple of tries last season [ Uate from memory ] from high attacking kicks on the 5 th and with Tom . T ability to out jump many opposition players , really should be utilized if the opportunity presents itself , as it would in most matches . Not a tactic that the more successful sides have employed this season and i guess that says it all as far as Manly "s present ladder situation is concerned .

That's nothing, back earlier than that, we had to hop on one leg up the 100 steps @ Harbord Rd, carrying the 200kg fat boy on your shoulders, whilst drinking cat pee . . . .

Lets not start all this again 🙂

... as stated previously .... not a fan of the slovenly mangey bearded one .... but ...

Whoever is responsible for Paseka's development must take a bow ... I was concerned he was too slow and agile-less .... but he is ripping in and running with pace ... surprised as fukk ....

Baz and the team have done a great job with this kid ......

**** woodsie you are dicing with death giving Baz a rap around here. He is not the only one that has improved under Trent "Blue Steel" Barrett. Kelly, Lane , Api to name a few.

Only yesterday Anasta called us slow, lethargic and lazy again. He questioned our fitness. It's rare to hear that from commentators.

We have the slowest play-the-balls in the league I'm sure.

Yesterday, we were puffing after 10 minutes as a group.

The worst part is how Ferris treats his fellow staffers though for mine. Willie Peters has his team to a point the rugby league World is saying that team has never been fitter.

I also understand Ferris had social issues on The Gold Coast.

I still go by Ferris: 7 years full time head Conditioner at various clubs. 0 finals wins. Not one game. Teams generally 12th - 16th.

.... and yet we beat a team running second who have the best fitness set-up in the NRL.
Go figure.

I enjoyed the win like the rest of us, but that performance from both teams was deplorable.

Panthers were flat. Horribly flat. Dragons would have put 40 on us (again).

We need some improvement.

I just checked the NRL stat's and it appears you are correct. These were before the Panthers game but Average Play the ball speed is listed as follows:

3.66s Manly
3.62s Slime
3.53s Drizzle
3.50s Gummies
3.48s Drugscastle
3.45s Donkeys
3.44s Rorters
3.40s Warriors
3.40s Cowgirls
3.37d ScumDogs
3.36s Dragqueens
3.35s Tits
3.34s Tagpies
3.29s Riff
3.28s Faders
3.18s Vermin

Not a great stat to be leading the league in, but in saying that it doesn't seem to correlate with results on it's own.
