You said if one behaves in a racist manner they are racist.  It is not as simple as that.  You can not brand someone racist for a 2 word comment.

Well I have called someone a black c#$t so I guess I definately must be a racist!!!!  Is that correct?  There can be no other option, I must be a racist?  If that is the case my aunt and cousins wont be happy. She married a aborignal and had 4 children with him.  Maybe all those times I have associated with them I was itching to carry on in a racist manner or I was and just did not know it.

Maybe Garts, maybe.  the other option is that you lost control and it came out your mouth.  Lots of people have thoughts,  giving vent to those thoughts is the problem.  I have murderous thoughts on occasions but I don't follow through.  Therefore I'm not a murderer.  Apparently Johns has been carry on like this for years, according to Tahu, and not yet denied by Johns.  On your own situation, ask your relatives if they liked being called a black ****?

Dont think they care if it is directed like Johns did, i.e. talking footy as in smash him.  If it was a rant putting them down for being black, now that is completly different imo.  Also they have dished out white c#@t more than I care to count.

All I am saying is saying a one liner like Johns said does not automatically make someone racist as you stated.  I say that based on my personal experience, I have said it and I can categorically say I am not racist.

I know I have been guilty of saying something similar to what Johns said in the past and I do not think I am racist.  I would employ a coloured person, I would stop to help a coloured person, I would and do socialise and have coloured people as friends etc.  If I would not do any of that then yes I would say I am a racist.

I think alot of Australians will call people names based on identifable features, it might be fat, red head etc.  Black is obviously viewed as being much worse due to the more severe forms of racism in society and nowdays saying anything about a minority is a no go as it is very politically incorrect.

Basically what Joey said was wrong but it does not automatically mean he is racist imo.  Go ahead and tear me to bits!!!!
Perhaps it has something with being in a maligned minority who take offense at further vilification?  I wonder how you'd feel if your land had been stolen and a lot of your kin slaughtered?

It was predictable that Ch 9 would try to whitewash the grub they employ.  They are stuck in the dark ages too.

Johns mind has been dulled by substance abuse & suffers from Bipolar.
He obviously has mental health issues & has paid a high price loosing two jobs.
He's just stepped down from his position at the eels.

He's paid a high price - Time to move on.

Good to read that Parramatta have given him the heave.  I'll never forget his role in the 97 steal.

DSM, I don't think your logic holds.

Let's take an example of a definition of racism (maybe one that isn't "if you say black ____, you're a racist"). Racism is the belief that race is a primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. Based on this definition, Johns' comments do not necessarily suggest he is a racist. I'm not arguing for his case, but more to show you that what he said, and the context in which he said it, doesn't make him a racist. Harbouring discriminatory views makes someone a racist.

If a black guy cuts me off, and I want to call him a ****, I might do that. In fact, if he were overweight, I might call him a fat ****. It doesn't mean that I don't like fat people (or ****s for that matter), I might just be describing him.

Anyway, that's my rant (dribble, if you like DSM). I don't like Johns, and he may well be a racist, but to think that because someone says "stop that black ****" that they are racist is fallacious logic in my opinion.

Thanks for that Codewana.  Drawing attention is a derogatory fashion to one's colour is racist.  He could have said "get the ****, smash him", but he didn't.  He overstepped the line between what's acceptable and what's racism.  Did he say to smash any "white ****s", in the Qld team? answer, no.  I too get angry from time to time and call people ****s, that's acceptable.  "Fat ****s", not really.

Anyway Codewana, to finish up, I really don't see why a beautiful part of a woman's anatomy should be used in such a derogatory way.  "Prick" would have been more appropriate.

Good point about pricks. And Cody there is an old saying about ducks. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck ...

The other point I'd make is that I believe we are all products of our times. None of us are perfect, so far as I can tell. However where racist ideas are identified they need to be exposed, and racist actions need to be condemned. Someone like Joey who spouts such language to people he is supposed to be guiding, while in his capacity as an official with our SOO team, has attracted an amazing number of apologists. Fatty being an outstanding example.

I guess it comes down to a difference of opinion in the end. I believe that saying something with the word black in it does not make one a racist necessarily. In saying that, I totally agree that it is unnecessary to use black, brown, yellow etc anyway.
At the same time, it appears that Johns does hold racist views, which I do not condone.

Reminds me of a Mitch Hedburg one liner...

"I hate when people say they don't care if you're black, white, purple or green - c'mon man, you gotta draw the line somewhere... purple or green? To hell with purple people!"

it amuses me when people say "i say black c*nt, but i'm not a racist"

by definition, YES YOU ARE!
it doesn't matter how you mean it, or if you have black mates who accept it, or if you adopt black children etc...

Which definition? I don't say that, so I don't really care, but the issue here is symantics.

Its not semantics at all.

The word c*nt is derogatory, the word black is a description of race, combined they make a derogatory description of someone based on race, intent or not that is a racist statement.

If someone said to me that they had said what Johns had said without meaning it in a racist way then I would ask what else they could possibly mean. What other meaning could there possibly be to those two words combined.

I heard a bloke on radio yesterday actually arguing Johns's comment was not racist because he was using 'black' as an adjective not a noun - and he was serious!

Why? Why defend the use of such a foul expression, or try to explain it as being harmless? Anyone who doesn't want to be considered racist should simply stop using expressions like 'black c***'. Can't be that complicated really.

Johns's and his brother are a pair of farking idiots. Johns admitted he played most of his carreer on drugs and is seem as some sort of hero because he was a great footballer, had he been an average player he would of beened shunned. A interview with Gus, a few tears and it's all good. The footy show is a joke!

Maybe Johns can line up Gus again on the footy show and have another cry. He should be sacked from ch9 but those knobs (vautin, sterlo etc) will to to make out it wasn't a huge deal. Johns was in a very prominent position and he should have known better, but he's thick as pig**** and deserves all the flak he's copping.

Face facts - pretty much everyone is racist.

Is there anyone here who has never used a feature of someone be it fat, ranga, black, gook, skippy etc etc sometime at some stage in their life?

i think joey was half right
inglis is a C__t
i just wouldnt of thrown in the black comment
