To a man ( or woman ) on here we all think Gordie is the messiah as far as hookers go ( realising we can’t get a Brandon Smith / Harry Grant to come ).

So if that’s the case riddle me this.

We have a spare spot in our top 30 right now , if he’s the messiah why haven’t the club elevated him already ???

The only reason I can think of is , he’s available in 3 rounds anyway , and we are holding this spot for a potential signing
I find it interesting he was in the 22 when Lawton was injured round 1 then back in the squad now Lawton is injured again.

Now that is either because he is available with some sort of exemption.

Or he is there in case Croker goes down mid week then we get an exemption.

Who knows

It would be good if the club explained that , but I’m guessing they won’t.

A development player can only be used prior to rd10 or 11,if a club has injuries in that player’s specific position and there is no other player in the 30 who plays that position eg Lawton out injured and Manly only have 2 specialist dummy halves in their 30,so GCKT was given clearance by NRL to come into the squad. As soon as Lawton is available, prior to rd10-11,GCKT can not be named in the squad

It is round 11, I'm aware of the rule.

Where I think we need clarity is what constitutes an exemption. Previously with our club and others it has been a a bit grey with some surprising exemptions given and others not.

So as per my initial musings does Lawton being out and Gordie being in the squad mean we have an exemption.

Or do we not and he is solely there in case Croker goes down then we can get one?

I mean the argument could be made that we want to play a hooker off the bench and we only have two hookers, so with Lawton out injured we should be able to call him up.

My personal opinion is clubs should have to manage their 30 intelligently and therefore the only reson a development players should play prior to round 11 is if your squad drops below 21 men or as a permanent injury replacement (for example in Doueihi's case he's gone for the year, so a development player can take his squad space but if that happens you have to fully rule out the injured player, in this case Doueihi for the entire year. So no miracle comebacks if he came good).

And yes I know Doueihi wont come good this year but just an example

I have seen CGKT a few times live and the jury is still out for me. This is just my opinion but I do not think he is a significant step up from Croker. Probably a bit slicker out of dummy half and will look good with momentum going forward however Croker does a lot of little things, particularly in defence.

So , a question , after round 11 ( or is it 10) a development player can suddenly be picked for any game , as long as his payments fit in to the salary cap ??

No need for approval , just pick them??

Correct or incorrect.

I would have thought his contract is already included in the cap?

The Messiah was not respected by his home town...or so the Bible tells us. Maybe Tong needs to show us a few more miracles. Hats and rabbits bit anyone.

I found this in a article
The development list will increase from $240,000 to $650,000, capturing the relevant development player payments.
So I’d say the club has this much to spend on there development player

Whenever Lawton has been out Flash has been named. Is that because we 'need' a bench hooker? Seems like opening the door for clubs to take the piss.

If clubs neglect depth in a particular position they can cover it with their development players. For arguments sake if we only had 2 recognised props in the top 30 would we be allowed to fill the bench with development props?

I'm probably jumping at shadows but it could be easily avoided if the NRL would clarify the rules.

I am 100% certain that manly knows the rules ... getting them to tell us seems to be the problem

He's had some good moments for Blacktown without being a crazy standout, but also gotta remember he's playing around reserve graders. We saw what he did in trial match against Chooks when he played with first graders, he didn't look out of place at all, in fact he was one of the best on field.

Also kicked for the first try.

Sorry folks but Gordie doesn't solve the problem of us being short on dummy halves

Just trying to be correct in the use of Gordon's name. Is his surname Chan or Tong. I know for example in Vietnamese the first name is the surname, not that's he's Vietnamese of course, but when referring to him I'd like to get the proper surname when mentioning him. And I'm pretty certain his name will be coming up a lot later in this year. Anyone know?

He might be like Marty and tell us ten years after his debut 🤷🏻‍♂️
