NOT even the great Steve Menzies can skip training on his birthday,as the popular second-rowerfound out yesterday when he celebrated his 34th.

Menzies, who debuted for the Sea Eagles in 1993, will enter the 2008 NRL season as the second-oldest player in the competition.

The only player who will turn out next year that has more candles on his birthday cake is New Zealand Warriors stalwart Ruben Wiki, who turns 35 in January.

``Yeah, I've done a few interviews where people have already told me I'll be the oldest NRL player next year,'' Menzies defended himself yesterday.

``But that's going to be Rubes.

``He's got me covered comfortably, he's got me by 11 months. Next time I see him I'll just say, `Thank you'.''

Beaver had a light training run in the morning with the Manly Sea Eagles before spending the afternoon at Menzies Financial Group. ``It's just another day really,'' Menzies said yesterday in between bites of mudcake.

``Thankfully, we had a pretty easy session this morning - it's going to be a fair bit harder tomorrow.''

And just to prove it was ``just another day'', Menzies' big birth-day plans were centred on the weekly poker night with his Sea Eagles mates.
