Hass goes to market

Found it very interesting when the Cheese said on Sunday night footy with Matty Johns..
The Roosters took his car off him..

Now its well publicised and common knowledge Politis made his fortune from selling cars..and has a number of dealerships including high end exotic car dealerships, but as a club official is there any rule on thitd party deals from a direct source related to the club?

I remember Manly being fined because an elderly lady (ex lawyer ) made payments to Foz.. she since passed away.

The NRL at the time stated that this was contrary to the salary cap rules because of her link with the club.

I'm betting part of every deal the Roosters do to lure marquee players is offer cars to the player and their families.. cars are not cheap
So this could easily add $50 to $100 k to a player.. even more if the player and his partner ask for prestige vehicles..

And yes...cash deals are also very common in the car industry so brown paper bags would not be in short supply. But that's another story.

Anyone know more about what Politis and his group of companies are able to put in as third party deals.

He's Greek mate Mark Bouris has a mortgage, finance and real estate company so I would love to see how the NRL look at their books and their third party contracts.

Wouldn't be hard to have already set up a car dealership , real estate and a finance company in different names that belong to "Mates" then have those "mates" offer third party contract deals to marquee players..

So Teddy here's your NRL contract $850k for 3 years

And here's your third party deals:
Car dealer-
New Mercedes $180k
Wife's Range Rover $120k
Real Estate-
We've also got you a penthouse for the next 3 years, fully paid rent $300k
Finance company-
Oh and we secured school fees for that private school your kid needs to go to for next 3 years $250k

So Teddy could be on $1.13mill per season.. not $850k
All seems more probable than possible to me…….

That’s not how it works; they’re given a house with side access; after they’ve settled in, a dump truck pulls up in the backyard and the money is poured onto the lawn. The dump truck drives off, the player accesses their ‘club supplied’ rake and the cash is taken inside. The rest is Premiership history!

Great post, so well constructed and direct, yet not a whining type vibe....simply factual and pretty much a 2 + 2 of why ppl continually see red flags out Bondi way, yet the NRL turns a blind eye to it.
I recall the Foz situation very well and the lady involved seemed a bit confused at the time, as it was happening at other places without questions asked.....so it pretty much seems, the exact same offence can be comitted by different NRL clubs, with different outcomes depending on "which" clubs are involved.....also known as "Double standards"

Certain clubs can rort while others can't.

I remember we got pinged for third party deals that weren't arranged "at arm's length" according to Greenburg, & suffered a $300k salary cap penalty for 2 years because of it.

It resulted in a police raid on Narrabeen Sports Academy with computers & phones seized.

Didn't that turn out to be a case of Brookvale Mazda simply moving from being a player sponsor to a team sponsor (or vice versa) & someone not lodging the appropriate paperwork?

Greenburg really had a hard on for Manly didn't he? So glad to see the back of him & took a lot of pleasure in PVL essentially sacking him for withholding payments to clubs over something or other.

I can see a world where Manly offer Payne a 8 year $1.2m per year contract.
We seem to give out these longer contracts more often than any other club. He is only 25 and getting better every year.

Is he inconsistent and overpaid?…if so then he will fit right in
He wouldn’t want to come here for any amount of coin and that’s going to be a huge problem for us going forward, quality players will avoid us like the plague, throwing up performances like last night and sticking with a coach that can’t seem to get the best out of anyone individually or collectively. I think the rocky road we’ve been travelling is not far from turning to complete Sh1t.

Agree. Why would anyone especially a Payne Haas want to come to another rabble of a club that turns out performances like what was dished up last night. We'll end up like the tigers having to pay overs just to get decent players to the club. Let's hope Fogarty's form at least from the Raiders carries over and makes this a better team.

What? 3 time spoon winners Tigers can manage to sign Luai, May & Turuva. Dogs pick up Critta, Burton & Kikau when they were a constant bottom 4 team. It’s all about money mate, we offer him the most then he will be a manly player no doubt about it

Yer, I’m not so sure, put it this way, there’s no chance I’d go to a club like ours, not even for the money. Plus if it’s going to be about the money only for Hass, he’ll get some big dollar offers that’ll blow us out of the water, further I think there is a competitor in Hass and his looking for out at Bris Vegas because they can’t get their sh1t together, on that basis he just doesn’t land here.
