As Manly supporters we can only hope that old Tommy is just around the corner, but it's hard to watch Tommy today compared to the 2021 model. It's like we've gone from a Turbo charged engine to a.....reconditioned 4 cylinder at best.
I'd take the 2019-20 model (before his 2020 injury). Don't even need the freakish 21 version. Just not whatever this is

No.

Tom should just play Tom’s way, all this BS about changing his running style, it’s not natural, he’d be better off just trusting his body, so he can start to enjoy his footy again.

So his done a couple of hammy’s, doesn’t mean it‘ll happen again, could just happen anyway, too many variables as to why it happened in the first place and no certainty it will happen again, we need the old Tom back, I even think Tom needs his old self back.

No point playing with a scrambled head because you to scared to run or too busy concentrating on how to run, I’d be ok if he just threw out the Knowles approach and just got back to playing footy.

It's funny. I was pretty excited when he first went to Knowles but what I've seen since he first came back has got me thinking about the number of different athletes this guy sees ... their completely different sports and body shapes and injuries ... and how the approach seems to be the same for all. The videos of exercises for Tommy and Latrell were the identical.

I'm starting to think Tommy would have been better off finding The World's Greatest Expert on Hammies.

I really don't know anything about Knowles' technique, but I assume he follows an underlying philosophy that informs his approach to working with the body mechanics. So, wouldn't be surprised to see similar movement exercises used across different sports and individuals.

I think the biggest issue is the time spent to address the body mechanics and the time necessary to realistically change ingrained movement patterns. Knowles would be merely helping with an approach and philosophy, but it would take long term dedicated practice to make the full shift in those old patterns.

I'd also imagine follow up would be pretty important.

Yeah. In an ideal world you would want to be spending at least 3 months with somebody like that to nurse you through the re-learning phase to ensure the player is regularly and correctly applying the techniques. We have all heard how dedicated Turbo is, so if anybody could make that change with their own will and self-discipline, it's likely him.

That said, under stress and pressure, it's easy to revert to old patterns until the new ones are cemented. I think we are seeing the result of a struggle going on within Tommy between the old and new. He will need more time still, IMO. Remember, I don't have any inside info whatsoever, I'm merely speculating.

Funny you mention Trell, I think his just gone back to playing footy and isn’t too worried about his running style or even his hammy for that matter and the difference in how there both playing and enjoying their footy is there for all to see.

I heard Demetriou in an interview say he lets Trell decide when he trains and when he doesn’t, you can see his not as fit as he should be, thing is though, his happy and playing good footy.

Interesting that a few years ago a famous young American male ballet dancer who danced with the Australian Ballet was on the verge of giving away ballet because of leg problems went to a guy in Melbourne to correct his style. Came back better than ever. Just saying, one doesn't have to travel to the US to find an expert.

You’ve heard of the cultural cringe.

This is the ‘sportural’ cringe at play.

Turbo & Foz both went down to see a specialist in Melbourne in last year’s pre-season for their hamstring issues. Might have been the guy you’re talking about?

Great to see Tommy hit his stride on a few occasions last night. He played great and I’m happy for him. Really played like he had something to prove. I think he would have played even better had it not been for Johns stifling a couple of those shifts in the second half. You could see Tommy wasn’t happy. Weather was a factor tho. Defensively Tom was caught out a couple of times again. Tgat will improve as he warms into the season.he just looked more confident which was a huge plus.

Schuster and Tom could be anything when they can get a few games together out there

Not sure where he sits mentally, but that try chasing the kick and accelerating to get there must help that side of things if there is some doubt there

Who are the genuine top 4 sides ?

So far we have play 3 of last years top 5 and 4 of the top 7
To be honest now, apart from the riff, I just don't know. It's getting hard to predict which is just great for the game. I think Broncos are a genuine top 4 but the rest is wide open. The rorters and vermin will be there abouts. We've just got to find consistency.

It’s really hard to know at this stage. Certainly feels closer with a few of teams.

I’m not sold on the Broncs just yet. Aside from jagging the 1pt win Penrith in round 1. They’ve not really played strong opposition (cows, Saints, Tigers, Phins, Raiders and Titans tonight) they have also played all their games at Suncorp aside from rd 1 and have been at full strength (aside from Oates being out - although he’s not a huge loss really). That said you can only beat who’s in front of you and they’ve done that.

if we can get fit and stay fit, we are a legit top 8 side.

It was refreshing to hear Brandy say after the coverage that Penrith would have demolished any team last week the way they came out. We were bad v Pen, but they were also very good.

Not certain about the Broncos yet, they had an out of sorts Panthers and Eels early then a soft run of Saints, Dolphins and Tigers before losing to Canberra.

Titans this week then the next 7 weeks look really testing Parra, Souths, Manly, Storm, Panthers, Warriors, Sharks.

They could indeed prove themselves as the real deal or could slip back to middle of the pack.
