So… we replace someone who would be really low in the pecking order, with someone who also will be really low in the pecking order.

What’s the fuss about? You need these players.

If it doesn’t pay off, we gain another depth second rower, on the level of MCK. If it does pay off, we might get a suitable 14. All for low coin.

We’re not talking about first choice 17 members here.

But this is the problem. Half of our 1st choice 17 will end up in rehab like this year because we get injured easily by being dominated by stronger, fitter, faster teams and then these low coin cast offs become our top 17 run on players. It doesn't work. Unless the club is prepared to build a team like Des did in 2005-2011 then we are consigned to just making up the numbers and never figuring in big finals matches.

That was not why Paseka or Haumole got injured. Nor Croker and Jake for that matter.
I agree older players or those with injury history are not ideal as they might be more prone to getting hurt.
But in such as tough sport as NRL, all players can and almost certainly will be hurt, at some stage.
I'd have preferred a younger player, but if it's Brown out, Bird in, we haven't gone backwards overall, just shifted the depth from middle to second row/centre, which is where we need more depth.

Plus it's a good confirmation Navale has relegated Brown from our top 17 plans.

At least with Brown he plays direct and honest. No frills.

I see it as a marginal upgrade, tbh, as Brown is perhaps even more busted, and at least Bird can add second-row depth.

Good to see the usual suspects using it as another chance to bag the club, or Jake or whoever.

You don’t think getting Viliame back is a good thing. Was playing well with us until his manager shopped him. Wasn’t given much opportunity at the Dragons but could be a plus. I’d have him over Waddell everyday!!

I know Mia was top 30 at boys yet joined us outside our top 30.

Your top 30 is literally your top 30 paid players.

I'm speculating, But Mia you'd expect minimum wage in the boys 30, could potentially be trumped by players on $1 more yeah.

Jackie Bird though said to be on 400k. He's no cheap back up edge. So I can't see how he wouldnt be top 30 at Man on that kind of coin.
