On Parcell, he had limited go forward where Manly won the play ball, also limited offloads or 2nd phase to exploit his 2 best characteristics - Speed and Support...very limited when combining this with injury and a jumbled halves combination making indesisive calls....
The only criticism I could see clearly was a lack of direction, leadership and
that fiery determination you want from today's dummy half...Smith and Ennis are examples and so was Ballin....lacked that tough edge but no doubt as a footballer ... the kid can play...imo will crack the NRL again and prove this in time.

I wouldn't say Walker is a crap kicker. He's kicked 14/19 (73.68%) in his career including including 12/16 for Manly. He wouldn't be a first choice kicker by any means, but he's a decent back up at least.

yes quite right ... sorry about that ... just the silvertail in me made me do it

We all expect Hastings to wear the 9. Myself included. Goal kicking is another bow to his string, that for me puts him infront of Api, but if he's our best kicker does he then have to play 80 mins at dummy half? We seem to prefer the hooker to play 80 mins anyway.

As a natural five eight, the one thing I don't want Hastings doing is competing with Green. Green needs to just own that 6 and build combination. I don't care how good Hastings goes in trials. We can't be chopping and changing our halves again, that could completely destroy our season, before it begins.

Our best team has to have both Green and Hastings on the park at the same time.

You know I'm not completely discounting Hastings being pushed wider and playing a ball playing centre? Where we have a vacancy.

How the club use Hastings is going to be very interesting. But It's something they have to get right. Was it 97 when Bozo had Craig Field as the extra half in the team, it just didn't work.

As long as Hastings plays well enough he should start at 9, but that is still an if.....if he doesn't then I would not have him on the bench,he does not offer much as a runner. It would be interesting playing him in the centres, does he have the pace and evasive skills to play there and trying to defend against guys like Jennings etc....?

In the Junior grades Hasting excelled in the halves , hooker and fullback

If he can cut it at fullback you would expect he can make it at centre. Just throwing it out there, i still expect and hope he is playing hooker.
Interesting that he played fullback,I did not know that, but it makes you wonder why he was reluctant to run in the halves?Maybe the problem is with young players given too much responsibility,Cartwright became nothing but a passer when he played 6 instead of taking on the line, took some time(and criticism) before he started taking on the line more.Still interesting to see if he could play 3/4,different defense there, a lot of different decisions to make there are lots of players/formations coming at you and crucial to make the right call and be in the right position....but he supposedly has a good footy brain.Uh oh 3rd post on this forum, from now I will say no more on Hastings.

Hey Smokin. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Jackson Hastings signing mate. Where do you think we should play him?
