Jake Simpkin signed until 2026

Writing Da Silva off after one ordinary game with half the spine out is ridiculous. Outside a couple of communication mixups which is understandable given the halves he had, look at his passing from dummy half. It’s crisp and has a lot of width. Having him , Simkins and with Large in the wings would finally put us in with a chance at some quality in the 9 after being hampered by makeshift options for years.

Now for a tough edge backrower, quality prop and also take some bets on some mobile athletic youth in these positions for the future.

Fogarty will unleash our back talent .

That’s the way back

We aren’t buying Da Silva as the finished product; he’s played 22 first grade games. He is a rookie. We are interested because of his obvious ceiling. He didn’t need to outplay Simpkin to prove his worth tonight. He’s got a long career ahead of him and settling into first grade.
Agree, but does he get to that finished product with the current coaching at Manly?

it’s still value added, either way. He’s a better prospect than what we currently have so if the same coach is responsible for the lesser talent, it should all balance out anyway 😂

Outside of the errors I’d encourage people to take a closer look at the width and speed of his passing game tonight and compare it to Croker’s. It’s chalk and cheese.

I cannot understand Siebolds obsession with Croker especially with Simpkins showing obvious signs of improvement. Croker is slow , never runs, has an ordinary pass and although defending reasonably well, he also misses a lot. And he’s been doing that for 5 years. Hard to fathom …then again if you look at the style of forwards he has wanted maybe it’s not hard to fathom.

I know we tried to get Da Silva for 2024, but missed out. I think the coach knew Croker wasn’t going to be good enough but better options have to agree to sign with the club. Then Simpkin came along and looked good in patches but has struggled in defence at times; he’s willing but loses contact with big middle forwards quite a bit. So I think that’s where Croker comes into Seibs equation. He typically keeps the middle tighter, hence his immediately inclusion back from injury. However, he was poor and I heard he was going to be dropped, had it not been for injury this week.

So yeah, I think Seibs knows what we’ve currently got is not the answer…but previously, all we had and we were essentially stuck with.

Does anyone know about the contract status of that Raiders player Pattie?, he definitly looks like he can play and the Raiders have resigned Starling, along with Brailey from the Knights.

Yea, let's keep signing hookers. Don't worry about any other forwards 😂
It's not one or the other and those 'other forwards' have to be on the market. Croker is the worst 9 in the comp and CKT is a career NSW Cup player and off contract. Jazz Tevaga has just signed to go overseas. The way I see it, it's Da Silva and Simkin for 2026. If we miss out on Da Silva, it might mean holding a spot for Croker and that's a scary thought. None of the aforementioned players are on decent coin either, so it's not like we are over capitalising on the position.

Re-signed a few months back.

Think Pattie and Da Silva are the two best hooking prospects about.....maybe Mozer in there too.

I think If given the choice Id probs go Pattie but he is not available.

I agree he is a superstar , not sure what the go is with where the raiders see his future

We only have one real one that has played nrl - we have a few good juniors coming through - any way I meant to put a ? After Ennis

I reckon Simpkin is really good
What’s the issue with him ?
He outplayed de Silva on Fri night
He always plays well
Something I am not seeing ?
Agree JE!!! Cannot get a grip on why Simpkin is constantly behind Croker & Tevaga as our preferred 9. He’s better than both! His DH service is so much better than any others we have! It can’t be good for his confidence getting dropped for Croker & Tevaga! We have him & Zaidas as our future 9s so why is he not given a fair crack?

We do have 'the pass of the century hooker' playing in jersey flegg and getting closer to being blooded into nrl, not ready yet though, maybe next year
