Jake T.

Jake is the natural successor to $CE as captain but should he even be in the side next year? His game has been declining at an alarming rate and it’s not likely to get any better with another year. I think Jake himself is aware of this given the recent retirement/super league talks

5 runs for 29 metres in 80 minutes last night

Might be different if he didn't have a brain dead coach.

Jake is the good boy who does exactly what he's told to do.

I'm waiting for the "he's there for his defence" dribble that comes out.
TKO made 42 tackles (Jake 42) but ran for 157m as well! That's what we need, players that can contribute to both.
5 runs for 29m is embarrassing.

Also, Jake has to put a lot more effort into his tackling these days, you can see the early fatigue on Jakes face now.

Play him at hooker for the opening stanza for the initial arm wrestle. Let him tackle himself to a standstill and then bring on Simpkin once the game opens up a bit. The later on he can be a forward utility like Jazz is currently doing.

So basically use Jake like Jazz is being used this year.

I'd play him the last 30 mins to tackle and tighten the middle when fatigue rises.

We have to make some tough calls with him and possibly even Tommy. I read signing the boys for another 2-3 years. That is madness. We need to let Perth, etc, sign them. We are going backwards and need a fresh start with stars who can perform on the big dollars.

I love Jake’s passion for the club. For that reason alone he needs to be in the team. You have to stick by these sort of culture creators. Since we sacked Toovey we have lost a lot of the passion that drove this club to great levels despite the clubs many challenges off the field. We should have sticked to our guns, kept our culture and been patient with that bringing about continued success. Instead they fired Toovey and have continuously looked for quick fixes ever since - in coaching, in recruitment, in development pathways and in management. We’ve lost our identity and Jake is one of the last people hanging around who actually cares about manly. So we have to keep him around for that alone.

I was only thinking this morning about how Jake used to be Killer's driver if he wanted to go out for a beer.

Hard to imagine that sort of stuff being mandated by the textbook corporates, but that sort of stuff drives connection for those coming through. Killer and his labrador puppy.

I like Jake, but purely on his football output, it would be questionable to give him a contract extension for 2027 (when he'll be another 2 years older), even on reduced money.

He can tackle hard, but doesn't have the speed or footwork to make the defence second guess themselves, nor the size and power to take hit ups and get the team over the advantage line.

So he's essentially pigeon-holed into this pedestrian ball distributor role which he's been doing for years, which fools no one because of his attributes.

I love Jake but I wouldn’t be extending him past 2026. Perhaps they should utilise him in the coaching staff in 2027. Sadly Turbo has been shadow of himself this season and there are no signs of him returning to form which is of concern. But for mine it is the lack of creativity with the football that is the most concerning. Our attack is often predictable and benign and IMO that’s on the coaching staff.

Jake can do some good tackles, but the fact he hasn't learnt to get up and to marker without his hands all over the player in 5 years of 6-agains tells me he's done.
Let alone his terrible yardage.
I wouldn't renew him.
