Maybe, but he was the best on the field last week in his chosen position of many years. Why would a rookie coach change one of the few things that were actually good about our performance last week?

he may have been the best on field last week,but out of a fairly ordinary pack,we really need BIG props in the engine room,i know how good turbo is,he will burn out against much bigger props now he in the bigboys team,at 13 he will cut them to bits

Jake is only 22, technically he hasn't fully grown, he will only get bigger and stronger in the next few years! I am pumped to see what he can do in another 2 years time

Not sure how the forwards can develop combinations when some have changed positons and several new forwards are brought in after only one round

Surely the coach and selectors would have sorted this out in the offseason?

Teams play with 3 middle forwards and 2 edge forwards these days and Jake will play a very similar game regardless of the number on his back

The difference is not with Jake but with Taupau who is moving to the edge

Think Jake will relish the lock role & the new combinations will be looking good before long.
Last week apart from coming up against a dogs team who benefit from playing together, the build up & hype seemed to overwhelm the performance....everyone is blaming combinations which can attribute, but the build up was massive adding pressure that imo - effected players performance individually & as a team...will know if this is true soon enough.

TB may feel a little tweak will be good for the pack, let the man tweak. Getting Starling out there is a good thing also i think, as i know a few others feel that too. Get the team plodding forward..

Ever since Bradley Clyde started using himself as a battering ram back in the late 80's, lock forward has been slowly evolving into a 3rd prop. These days you see more locks being able to slot straight into the front row than you do second rowers.

I think it's a good move and possibly where Jake may end up long term. It frees up Taupau to go and run over centres which to me is more beneficial.

to us old blokes a lock is a lock ,born to hold the scrum together,now a second 5/8 / defensive player ,in my world you get left and right prop,left and right second rowers and a roving lock,please correct me if I am wrong

I'm old enough to remember when the center a side was a new concept and inside and outside centers were the go.

I suspect your world is not the same world as the current NRL setups. not all teams do it, but its not unusual.

scrums these days while feeding have the dummy half (not hooker, they don't do that either like they used to) at the back of the scum, enabling better distribution from the scrum. while defending it will be a tackler.

its a new world, not better, not worse, just new.

I still shake my head when commentaters say centre partners.
Heard one last year saying Lyon and Matai had an advantage because of years of playing in the centres together. Haven't seen them get within 50feet of each other in 5 years.
