Sea Eagles prepare lawsuit
Manly aren’t short of cash - and the Sea Eagles are looking to make some more money via a lawsuit over those damaging match-fixing allegations that the media aired a few months ago.

Having been cleared by the police and NRL Integrity Unit of any wrong doing, the Sea Eagles have engaged a top law firm to see if they have a case for libel against several media outlets who named and shamed the club.

Given the allegations were not proven - and certainly damaged the club’s reputation - the Sea Eagles could have a case.

Meanwhile, the club’s legal team is fighting another battle with the NRL over the salary cap - and how that will finish is anyone’s guess.

I'm betting there are a few journalists with clenched sphincters running around today!!!! How i hope the Manly hierarchy goes after these morons with all guns blazing!!!!

A law suit would cost millions. Remember Fairfax and News filth have buckets of money. I would love to see them eat their words as the damage they have done to our brand over the alleged betting scandal has made it very hard. I think the NRL are culpable too as their governance has repeatedly failed over the salary cap enforcement. Right now our club is subjected to an investigation that will in time involve other clubs yet our club is only mentioned. What is going on is out and out discrimination against our club by the body that is there to protect and look after EVERY club, not just a few pampered ones!!!

To be honest I didn't read anything that would give rise to a claim. Unlike in Brett Stewart's case (eg. the "I don't remember a thing" headline), the articles I read simply explained that Manly were being investigated (which was true). As this comes from the Lurker there is a fair chance it's just made up, so as nice as it would be to bring the journos to account I can't see it happening.
