6 to 9 months

The way we roll
We will sign him to a 600k contract
Cover his out of pocket expenses
Let him sit on the sidelines for 9 months and just when he is ready to return we will release him to another team.

Maybe even sign his son up with the richest contract for a 10 year old.

Manly set to offer Matt Lodge an NRL lifeline despite ACL tear

Manly is set to hand Matt Lodge a rugby league lifeline despite the off-contract prop facing the prospect of spending the majority of next season on the sidelines.

Lodge is facing a long road back to the NRL after tearing his ACL in the Sea Eagles’ pivotal loss to his old club, the Roosters, on Thursday night.

Manly Sea Eagles recruit Matt Lodge was "shattered" after suffering a serious knee injury.

The timing could not have been worse for the 28-year-old, who was signed to only a train-and-trial deal at the Sea Eagles last month after the Roosters released him.

But Manly chief executive Tony Mestrov has given the strongest hint yet the club will still offer Lodge a new deal on the northern beaches for next year, hailing his impact on the playing group since his immediate switch.

“Matt has fitted in extremely well since joining the club and he’s been great for our younger players,” Mestrov said.

“He’s shown enough in the few games he’s played with us and this injury won’t sway our thinking when looking at our roster for next year.”

Even with a nine-month recovery from the knee reconstruction, Lodge would still only return to the field for the second half of the 2024 campaign, which is set to feature Manly’s new buys Luke Brooks, Tommy Talau and Jaxson Paulo.

Manly’s stance will ease the immediate concerns for Lodge, who was squeezed out of the Roosters after Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was offered a one-year extension to play on in 2024. The Tricolours will also welcome Penrith prop Spencer Leniu to the club next year.

Lodge’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for coach Anthony Seibold, who was already without props Taniela Paseka (knee), Josh Aloiai (shoulder) and Sean Keppie (back) against the Roosters.

Brown facing one-match suspension for rapid send-off, but where does he rank in the hall of shame?

Manly will fight to keep their season alive against title favourites Penrith and the top four-chasing Warriors in the next fortnight after starting this round just one point outside the top eight.

On Lodge’s injury, Seibold said after the game: “He’s obviously shattered. We’ll pick up the pieces over the next couple of days. I feel for him and his family.”

Lodge made an immediate impact on the Sea Eagles with the club notching wins against the Sharks and Dragons after he joined the NRL side, but his third match didn’t even last 10 minutes as he limped from the field.

He was hoping to make a home at his fifth NRL club after previous stints at the Tigers, Broncos, Warriors and Roosters, and Seibold will now make decisions on a number of other free agents.

Veteran prop Aaron Woods remains without a deal for next year, but could prolong his career at Manly with young gun Kaeo Weekes also poised to ink a one-year extension.

And the comments so far:

“Mestrov signing is away to 13th place again.”*

“Please don’t sign Sharon.”

*TZ: Looks like someone has Ian Thomson Jr’s number.

May as well sign him,it’ll be a change having a player wasting cap space prior to the next season starting rather than losing them mid season 🙄🙄

ok..if that's the case, Seib's is obviously giving him a wage every week while in rehab until he plays again, probably half way through next season.

It’s only a guess, but I reckon there was already deal there for next year but to fit in under the cap for this year, we needed to give him the train and trial contract. This article is spin to cover for the inevitable announcement of a three year deal from next season - just speculating.

How is returning 9 months from now (Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar & April) the second half of the season when the season kicks off in March?

Was waiting for go flano to start stealing guys we want should have pissed him off ages ago.

Lodge used to train at a gym I used to visit back when he was at the tigers and I thought he was a massive tool, he's shown enough though over the last few weeks for me to think he's worth keeping round if the price is right and I was pretty against his signing, he's not the first person to only learn things the hard way and a least he knows how to go forward.
