[Resurrected] Lol @ Parra

The History of Gutho has been written so many different times Myth has become fact and fact has been conveniently disposed off in the cause of blame.

My memory is that at the time he re-signed we were under salary cap pressure and had other players to consider retaining ... at the time Gutho was a good up and comer, but with Snake, Lyons, Matai and Tommy coming through, Gutho was simply seen as a reserve luxury we couldn't afford .. the newspaper reports at the time made mention of Manly generously allowing Gutho an early release if he could get a first grade game elsewhere ...

He wasn't punted ... he didn't leave in a huffy fit ... it was just the circumstances at the time with Manly already having a full and expensive backline ..
Pretty sure we had signed Marty and Dylan to join in 12 months but then they became available earlier - we had to move some players on to create space and Gutho was an attractive asset.

(for hat it is worth this article reads like what is being said about baz this year)

With Taupau allowed out of the last year of his deal, it is also possible that the Tigers will be contributing a portion of his wage in 2016.

He resigned during a grim period. We had one game in 8 so these kids were a good news story

He was on the Fan the other night and comes across as the biggest love job out. Huge tickets on himself.

@master blaster @lsz He left Manly because we 'didn't want him'. That's an actual quote from him. Then Arthur, Foran and Watnow coaxed him over to the Eels. When you are coming off a serious injury and a club tells you they don't want you, I suspect he put all loyalties aside and took care himself, which no one can blame him for. So, he didn't agitate for a release according to the man himself. He was unwanted and we used his coin to sign the likes of Walker.

DCE has also gone on record to indicate that he thought Gutho was going to be his next halves partner as a replacement for Foran who had signed with Eels earlier. So it seems fair to indicate that when Gutho signed with Manly, he knew he wasn't going to be the fullback but must have been happy to play elsewhere or he wouldn't have signed. That DCE says he was going to play 6 also points to that notion.
G'day all, You're right @Snake he was being played at 5/8 in reserves at the time with an obvious prospect of the first grade position due to his potential and his outstanding junior representative credentials.
cheers mike

Yeah it was that clown Voss who coined that idiotic label. He's done nothing to be crowned the "king" and it's an insult to the actual "king" as much it pains me to say it Lewis.
Voss may have coined it but Gutho has completely embraced it. Says more about Gutho then it does about Voss actually. Just like his expectations for his contract value, he hasn't done enough in the game yet to deserve either

Game on. Nathan Brown drops the ball in the first set. Somethings never change. Did we really want this guy, or was it an April Fools Day joke?

Whatever it was, it was a bad joke, thank god he stays with the slime for next couple of years, they deserve each other

The hardest working person in the eels team is the ref. Trying too hard to give the eels the game but the eels keep finding a way to upset the refs plans.

Apr 2015: Manly re-sign up and coming fullback Tom Trbojevic
Aug 2015: Manly give fullback Brett Stewart a one year extension (to end 2017)

Sep 2015: Manly release Clint Gutherson to free up cap space
Oct 2015: Manly sign Martin Taupau
Dec 2015: Manly sign Dylan Walker

Clint Gutherson released by Manly, expected to link up with Parramatta

Excerpt from article...

“The club recently extended the contracts of some of our experienced players and further enhanced our depth through the recruitment of players who can cover several positions,” the statement read.

“Accordingly it became clear that Clinton would no longer receive the opportunity to further develop through consistent selection at NRL level with the Sea Eagles.” Gutherson, 21, can play fullback, wing or centre and looked every bit an NRL player in the five top grade games he has played, but an ACL injury suffered in round one this season brought an end to his year.

He has represented NSW at under-20s, under-18s and under-16s level and is considered one of the game’s most promising up-and-coming players.

But new coach Trent Barrett has deemed him surplus to requirements.
