Luke Brooks - the plate is hot

I've seen some evidence that said that Brooks was in the lowest 10 NRL-wide for average metres conceded per missed tackle. In other words, the tackles he does miss, the player usually ends up being taken down anyway.

Unweighted stats on their own can be incredibly deceiving, and this is probably one of the best examples of it. You can have a low missed tackle count, and be a terrible defender. In this case it's the opposite.

Many people were defending Garrick's defence last year on the basis of his low missed tackle rate. Of course this didn't match the eye test. That's another example.

IMO missed tackle stats are one of the most overrated measures. The Bulldogs have had thirty million missed tackles over the past two years, and yet they've made the finals, and improved, while keeping missed tackles.
Haha okay

9 years of rubbish with the tigers and now the same at Manly

What ironstine thought that Brooks would improve here?

Just from observation/opinion, if DCE is the sole playmaker, the opposition pressure him whenever possible and then his game falters. So this really drove the need to have another solid playmaking 5/8 next to him. I don't know if summation is believed or accepted within the club but it might need more criticial evaluation in hindsight.

In 2023 we cycled between Schuster, Arthur, and Johns without much success (all while Schuster's contract as a 5/8 was being discussed), then we ended up pulling the trigger on Brooks.

If we had a Fogarty type halfback then maybe that would have freed up a lot more options...

Seibold suggesting they may debout Joey Walsh before the end of the season which means curtains for Brooks in 2026. The Fog and Walsh show for 2026. That's something I could get excited about.
