Manly’s Future – A Club in Decline?

I’m itching for some success but it doesn’t matter what happens because Manly isn’t just some hobby that I can park when things are going as planned…it’s been the backdrop of my life since I was a little kid. It’s like family and you never turn your back on family. It’s more than the players, the current administration and the current owners…it’s the club and its storied history that endure beyond the status quo.

It's not just premierships It's off field. Look at their memberships, their stadiums, their revenue streams just dwarf us these days. I guess having followed Manly for 50 years there was always a premiership on the horizon but the last decade we just aren't anywhere near it and I can't see one coming for a long long time.
Agree it’s more about avoiding humiliation than actually expecting success which doesn’t sit well. it’s also bleeding obvious we need a youthful balanced squad all pulling in the same direction. Manly has had the luxury of some blue chip players but too often surrounded by journeyman. It hasn’t worked. We rolled the dice and paid way too much, to too few, for very little impact. Lose the flash and develop some grit and character. Look at Parra and even Canberra - connected, youthful and energetic. We have enough quality to start afresh. Let’s hope siebold coaches for the clubs long term success not just his own short term survival

THIS!! You have nailed it. Manly has been a way of life for me since the early 1980s, my Dad driving us down from Forestville to sit on the Hill.

Since then I lived all over the north side of the Bridge but I get to at least 3 games a year and love the coming together with friends and family on the Hill. We win together, we lose together & until recently the odd draw as well. We catch up on the latest goings on, have a laugh, a few beers, shout encourage and boo the opposition.

I’m 50 now and I hope I still have 20 more years on the Hill before moving to a grandstand seat. My brother and I took my Dad this year and forgot he’s closer to 80 than 70 and struggled getting up when sitting on the Hill. Otherwise he loved it 😄

Manly will always be part of me, and despite not liking the way our owner operates, I will not let him influence the way I support our club. The owner, the coaches, the players, they all come and go. Us “true supporters” are in for life, to death do us part 🦅

The only issue is our owner does not look like he will go anytime soon....which is the issue
