Manly Attack 2016 To 2017

Kelly yeah i don't know about him, seems poor defensively

Not sure here whether your comment is tongue in cheek Cherry Poppins because on average per game Walker does 10.6 tackles and misses 2.9 tackles, while Kelly averages 11.5 tackles and misses 2.6, in 2017. So Kelly not only tackles more than Walker but misses fewer tackles per game. I would hardly say either have significant defensive problems

Top of the list I'd probably put down all the hate speech on the forum as the number one factor in form turn around. It really seems to have a struck a chord with the players and they've picked up their game to avoid any further public stoning's.

Does it count as a missed tackle for an awful read that exposes your winger?

he's young and learning the trade. I know of no young player, other than when Geoff Toovey came into first grade, who had their attack and defence near perfect. But I've seen young Kelly take on some of the best centres with top face on defence. He's got a big future. Even TT makes fundamental errors as does Walker. But they are a young group somewhat reminiscent of 2006-7, and some of those champion players back then made big tactical mistakes in their formative years. Mistakes are part of development. Putting a young player down for what most players do at that stage is somewhat unfair.

I'm not putting him down I'm pointing out the fact he isn't perfect

We are finding ways to get points on the board and that takes determination so as far as the players go,that would be it.We definitely have not been flawless but we can not be robbed of our determination to get the 2 points.Would love to see us beat St George ,Cronulla,Melbourne.DCE has been our best overall I think.

You mean like the Gutherson tactic.
Gutherson was well worth keeping

Kelly's value has skyrocketed, i think we could do better cheaper, like Taufua moves into centre and Parker comes in on the wing

We don't need to pay Kelly a motza for one good year and we get to keep Taufuas metres and lose his drops and Parker gets a well deserved shot

Patience required here CP.

Last year we were wondering why we had grabbed Walker. And he was older then than Kelly is now.

I can see innate cleverness in Kelly, like I saw in a young Cliff Lyons, when he played for Norths and like Jamie Lyon was displaying early at Parramatta. I remember how Manly were all enthused because they had picked up Mitchell Cox from Norths and had grabbed Cliffy almost as an after thought. I remember thinking at the time, Lyons seemed to have all the time in the world on the field. Special players like that dont shine spectacularly like Walker. Their skill is timing, and to me Kelly has that skill. If it develops, he could be something very special.

Remember he only just turned 21. Many have raved about the Walker-Uate combination that has been going gang busters. But until Taufua was injury the Kelly-Taufua combination was scoring just as many tries. They just didnt look as spectacular.

Mind you I would love to have Gutherson back, as I've said from the start. Just had another Man of the Match performance in Parra's defeat of The Dragons
