As a working journalist (non sport) and Manly tragic, I've been frustrated with the club's in-house content for some time.
We seem to get fewer stories than other clubs and most pieces are short, light stories about new/young players. They're better than nothing and some (Sipley interview) are quite good,
Am sure we are doing our best with stretched media resources, but insightful content that extends beyond player puff pieces could be produced for fans (I would read every word!).
For example:
1. Pre-season training insights. Without giving away trade secrets, what does our pre-season entail? What are the main goals? How often is player fitness measured etc? What is some of the sport science involved?
2. Injury/rehab. What is the process to minimise/ repair injuries? What did we do to vastly reduce the injury rate on 2016 season?
3. Recruitment. Again without giving away trade secrets, who leads our recruitment, do we have a network of scouts, how do we plan recruitment five years out etc?
4. Blacktown. Would love to know about the players, coaches and each match. Vacuum of information on a partnership that was hyped up.
5. SG Ball/ Harold Matts. What type of training do they do. How do we recruit for these teams. What is the pathway to NRL?
6. Other coaches. More from coaches beyond Baz. Would love to know more about our systems to identify/develop coaches at Manly.
7. Off field: What do we do to help players keep safe and scandal-free off the field? How do we help them gain skills/jobs for post-career etc.
What else would you like to read about?
