Don't agree with that at all. Plenty of examples of smart players who are popular with their teammates. And DCE seems to be well accepted by the current bunch.
I always suspected it was less to do with the 'smarter than your average bear' thing, and more that DCE nailed his colours to the family-oriented, not a party boy, pole very early on.
I reckon that tends to come off as more 'arrogant' or 'standoffish' than just being a bit smarter than the guys around you, like you're rejecting them or looking down on them because you don't want to join in the partying, drinking, gambling, whatever else is going on...
